Folks,
I have lived in Alabama all my life. Born and raised in Tuscaloosa County. Never, have I ever, been to Guntersville, Alabama. I'm headed there this weekend with the wife and my OMC, Sadie.
I did a two day job for a good friend of mine back in March of this year just to help him out because he was down from major knee surgery. A few weeks after I did the work for him he called to tell me that he had rented a pet friendly cabin in Guntersville for me, the wife and Sadie for Memorial Day weekend. It was his way of doing something for me for the work I had done for him. It wasn't expected but is appreciated.
We can check into the cabin on Friday of this week at 11:00 a.m. and we don't have to check out until 12:00 noon on Monday, Memorial Day.
So, seeing as how neither the wife or I have ever been to Guntersville and the surrounding areas, I need a little help.
Tell me some things to do, places to go and most importantly, really good places to eat. I need to fill up 3 days with things to do.
I know Guntersville is known as a great bass fishing area but I don't own a boat nor do I bass fish. So, I need other activities to pursue.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks a bunch.

Old Town Stock House, Rock House, Papa Dubis, Top of the River. These are all good choices. I put the Rock House Eatery at the top of that list myself, but none of them are bad choices. I'd stay away from Wentzells. Maters Pizza in Albertville is some count also. CrawMamma's is usually busy but I haven't been there in several years so I don't know. I'll be at the state park campground this weekend myself. If you like to watch deer, drive down by the campground a little before dusk. There's usually a bunch hanging out in the vicinity. They're like pets. If you're that close, swing on through and say hi.

You can come help me work around the farm Saturday then you won't have to find so many activities to do. LOL
Cathedral caverns is a must if you've never been to a big cave. I would gladly take you fishing but I do not get on the water on holiday weekends. Too much stupid out there. If you want to fish, bring some rods and you and your wife can fish in our pond or go below the dam (on the Union Grove side) and fish from the bank. Either one is guaranteed fish. Definitely go to the state park and walk around. It'll be much different terrain than you're used to. It's beautiful and most of us take it for granted.
The restaurants mentioned are good choices.
Oh, oh, oh. On the eats, take your wife to South Sauty and eat at the cafe. It's fancy, and good. I can't remember the name of it, but with me posting this, someone will know the name. A state park trip, followed up with a meal at South Sauty would be a trip your wife will remember a long time. It's a beautiful, curvy drive and both are on the same main road. You could leave the cafe, continue north, which will take you to Scottsboro. You'd turn west on Hwy 72, then turn left on Hwy 79 and come back to Guntersville. Make a big loop.
If y'all want to go to church Sunday, you can go with me.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
