You sit on your porch and a B-29 flies over.

It’s flying out of Meridianville. My dad was a crew chief on them. Loved the stories he used to tell about flying on them.

We had a "flyover" today too. Lots of abnormal activity lately.

My grandfather was part of a B-29 crew. They flew “Hump” missions out of India before getting moved to the Tinian islands. They flew enough missions to wear out one plane and get assigned to another. They were shot down at the end of the war but he survived. I have old photos of him with the crew and one of his planes that he sent home to my grandmother. From those photos I used the tail numbers to obtain the flight service records of his planes. His planes names were Fu-Kem-Al and Fu-Kem-Al-Tu.

I saw it Saturday morning. It was very cool to say the least.

You can get flight service records on most of the old decommissioned aircraft if you have a tail number. You won’t get a list of missions or anything like that but you can get records of maintenance and when it was put in service and when it came out. For instance I found where their first plane was retired as “war weary” and on what date. I joined a B29 forum and the guys on there told me how to request those records from Maxwell. It’s pretty cool looking through that stuff. The guys on the forum also knew about my grandfather’s plane and gave me some more info. That first plane flew 30 hump missions which was incredible.

I used to see them daily, my father was the vice president for the Confederate Airforce in Midland Tx. I was a 15 year old kid working the in warehouse pulling parts. Nothing like being told to go get the part ready FIFI is fling in at 2 and needs it. Got to ride in several of the WWII planes. It was a great time.

That's pretty cool Driveby. My uncle was a maintenance crew chief (or whatever they are actually called) on B-52s at Elgin for about 10 years until he retired. Years later I had the opportunity to make a few tow bars for them.
