Need some info on planting these things. Never done it before and am going to do some for selling in the fall. How do you prep , plant, feed these things and what kind of pumpkin is best for a pumpkin patch / carving ?

I've planted pumpkins several time but I haven't had much luck.. especially planting them during the summer. Some sort of beetle bores into the vines. I have a friend that easily grows a mess of them every year.

Borers are hard on pumpkins 🎃 . You have to keep them sprayed ! My brother in law use to raise 10-20 acres to sell . Plant your rows far enough apart so that you can work them till they start running good . He used a small disc but on a smaller scale you could plant closer and run between with a tiller .

What did he spray them with ?

Also what kind of distance between rows would be ideal ? 6 to 8 feet ?

8 ft between rows , 4 ft between hills . He sprayed Asanna . The spacing is how his planters were set he said . He planted a variety that has the large handles , I’ll see if he remembers the variety. He’s at work , fireman/ paramedic

Same issue with borers on gourds . The little baby boo pumpkins are really gourds but they are great sellers , they also come in a white variety. Don’t need many hills of those if they make . They are prolific !

Got 28 rows ranging from 65 to 100 yards in the ground yesterday spaced about 5-8 foot from each planting about 5 varieties of pumpkins so we will have a good mix. Soil moisture was good from the monsoon we got on Monday. Got a small sprinkle after planting and there is a chance of rain on and off through this week. Gonna have to spray some pesticide soon but I think we are good to go if the weather works out for us.

Fingers are crossed.
