My wife has an iPhone 12 with an Apple case I got when buying the phone from Verizon.
Problem is she drops the darn thing at least twice a day. I have always used screen protectors and a LifeProof or OtterBox case whichever offered the highest raised front trim bezel to protect from forward landing drops.

But most of these new cases I've searched and reviewed do not appear to have a high outer trim bezel that will keep the screen from getting impacted if it were to land screen first. Don't want to get her something to military grade looking even though she needs it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have had great luck with a Spigen. My iphone is about 6 years old and never had an issue dropping it.

I use a Spigen on an iPhone 11 along with a "gorilla glass" type screen protector. The case does not have the raised edge, so the screen is pretty much flush with the case, but I've dropped mine several times and the screen protectors have done their job. You can buy them on Amazon cheap, and replace them when they get cracked. I think I'm on my 3rd or 4th screen protector, but the screen itself hasn't cracked, so they obviously did what they were supposed to do.

Yep.....she's currently on her 4th screen protector. Was using Zagg and now a Spigen.

That raise edge that LifeProof and OtterBox used to have on their cases needs to be re-introduced.

Oh what am I thinking they (mfg.) want it to break so you have to buy a new phone.

Everything is built disposable.

I use a speck case. Has exactly what your describing. I do keep a screen protector on it but have never had an issue. It’s only recessed by a couple mm but I’ve had this phone for years and have never replaced the screen protector.

i second Urban Armour (UAG). Had the Monarch on my 7 plus and also have the kevlar version on my 13pro with their Glass Protector Plus screen protector. I'm not easy on my phones.

That's what she's had in the past Shaw, however it looks like the new ones don't have a very high outer rim lip to protect it from front screen landings. I think that's why all of the broken screen protectors. lol ....it looks like she's moving everything every time she gets in a vehicle.

I'm thinking I'll order a Lifeproof and an Urban Gear and see what they look like when installed and return the lesser of the two.

Thanks guys!

The Lifeproof FRĒ is fully enclosed and has a built in screen protector. Not one of those stick on ones.

Sounds like a $30 flip phone would be more appropriate.
