Do you ever shoot them? It's meat in the freezer right?? If you need meat go buy a butterball, it will be a lot cheaper. Other than a kids first turkey, you'll get runoff most places for good if you shoot a jake

i have no issue with anyone shooting a jake or a spike. it’s a legal animal/kill and if harvested for the right reason then carry on and so be it

Agreed. I worry less about the folks who shoot a Jake than I do about the folks who want to kill every longbeard on each property they hunt.

But, I dont really care if people shoot jakes. Heck, I may get meat poor and need to shoot one. I have avoided shooting hens with my bow in the fall, but if they keep heading off my birds I may add them to the list too.

the jake is the key to a turkey population. if u got jakes u can kill every longbeard u got and have turkey. if all u shoot is longbeards u cant kill em out. no jakes for anyone that hunts with me i dont care if they have never killed a turkey before. Until you have a few consecutive years of bad hatches.
