Finally Russia believes NATO is a hostile alliance and the terrain features that Ukraine has will help defend against any NATO ground offensive. Even in today's world terrain features go a long way in protecting nations from attack and or allow a nation to properly defend itself.
The problem with that thinking is that there isn't going to be any NATO ground offensive unless Russia itself causes WW3 to happen. Nobody wants to invade Russia. Nobody wants that chithole. And claiming to believe they are under such a threat because of Ukraine is either delusional or (and this is much more likely) a bald faced lie used to provide an excuse for invasion. If you go back and check WW2 history you will find that, at least early on, Hitler offered up some bullchit excuse to justify all the countries Germany invaded. Such claims are right out of the dictators pre-invasion handbook.
