Started popping this week around here. And they are actually a little late this year. But having zones for turkey seasons……crazy talk.

Seeing lot of blooms

Pecker heads gone b separated and henned up before we start

Where we at - we should of opened up tomorrow - we got 2 more weeks

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self
We need prayer for our country now more than ever

Beautiful little trees, I enjoy them every spring. Be a week or two before they are blooming all over the place

Simply pointing out the old adage that a man needs to be in the turkey woods when the dogwoods are blooming, and the huge disparity in this state in regards to green-up - which is being ignored. Let’s say the first dogwood bloomed about April 1st in the northern 3rd of the state - do you believe season should start April 15th? That’s about the gap here, cause we generally have dogwoods blooming March 10, or before.

I imagine you cursing that stuff as you doze off at night and then you mutter bad things about it as you slowly awake every morning.

🤣
That’s about right. I was flagging SMZs yesterday and found two more patches.

Ramer
Saw some dogwoods blooming on the way to Ramer a few minutes ago. Turkeys already split up and gobblers been with hens for weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if hens are already nesting. Looks like turkey cycle is 3-4 weeks ahead of what used to be "normal".
Probably be poults on the ground before end of May. This current theory, season is total bullchit. Heard 1 gobbling mid morning yesterday like hens had left him to go to the nest

It’s not unusual to see poults end of April / early May.

I keep saying I’m willing to rattle this cage until it changes. I think March 25th is a perfectly fine start date for North AL. March 15th was probably too early for half of the state. It was NOT too early for the southern half, below Hwy 80 or something like that. You don’t have to look hard to prove why.

I agree with what you’re saying. The only negative I can think of is that the northern zone hunters of the state will flock to the southern zone to hunt when it opens. The public lands in south alabama would be slammed with hunters.

I say let them decide when it’s time to die, kill your limit and move on to the next chore. Seen one about 30 min ago in a field with what looked like 25 other turkey. He was blowed up and feeling right and it’s about 34 degrees here.

That came up in past discussions. That’s the ole 99/1 rule. Use Hwy 80 again, 99% of property below that line is private land. The only place, IMO, that would get hammered, is Barbour. Ok - start Barbour later. WMA/public lands are already being targeted with later start dates. Bottom line, is that’s not a good excuse to do the right thing.
