Well after going 20ish year never killing a buck on my family land in Bibb co I’ve killed 3 in the last 2 years, with this one being the largest we’ve ever killed on our land, and possibly my largest. We knew it was gonna rain hard on us Saturday afternoon, and I had 2 guests with me so I put them in shooting houses at 2 of our better spots, and I just opted for a green field close to them cause it was convenient after I had to take them to their spots, and hasn’t been hunted in 2 years due to minimal sightings. We got in earlier than we normally do in the afternoon trying to beat the rain, and that fact is what killed this deer. I had just got in the shooting house and unpacked my back pack when I looked up and there was a yearling doe crossing the 30 yard wide plot. The rut should be over in my neck of the woods but I got my gun up just in case, and sure enough I see antlers coming out into the field. I immediately knew it was a buck I was gonna shoot so I steadied my self for a shot. He was on a mission so I had to whistle and stop him. He looked broadside so I squeezed off. He jumped and ran off into the woods, but I heard him crash very quickly after he exited the field. I wanted to try and give him some time but no sooner than I shot the rain started. Got down and found blood in the field and made it to the edge of the woods and I could smell him. Looked up and there he laid. Less than 20 yards off the field edge. Got him loaded up in the buggy and was back at the cabin by 2:30. Wish I took better pictures with me and him, but by the time my guest were done hunting it was pouring and I hard already started to celebrate with some brown water, and by the time we got to cleaning him I had completely forgotten about taking pics. He didn’t look that big, but I scored him twice and I got 133, and 131.5.

Awesome buck! It's wild when they are where we don't expect them to be.
