What is the deal with these guys in Thomaston? Have not seen a post since the end of February '21. Seems as if they were keeping up very well for a good spell, now they vanish??? The Alabama whitetail deserves these records. Our state has such a unique story with a truly unique herd and I'd hate to see the Alabama record book just burn out. I hate to start making accusations and spewing speculation, so I won't, but what the mess?! Someone who knows those cats over there, start putting a thumb in their ribs.

Never cared much for AWR seemed like a waste and knowing the folks that ran it your post does not in any way suprise me. Its to be expected.

I'm not a big records guy, partly because someone always is trying to create their "State-County Sub-400fps Hybrid/Trad Crossbow 6-Point Velvet on a Full Moon Week in the Rainy Woods Not Over Corn" record. Everyone has to have a damned ribbon.

But, I always thought Dennis did a solid job running AWR. There didn't seem to be any BS with the records or his methodology or end results.

I don't know the current owners or anything about what's happened since 2018. But if things have declined, that's a shame.

B&C recinded their ability to be a B&C official scorer after investigating and rescoring a bunch of deer that had scored in correctly. This was after AWR scored a Green Co buck at over 300 inches and declared it a new world record. I think B&C scored it at less than 200 inches. They scored a buck my wife killed that scored 151 gross at 135 gross. It is a very symmetrical easy to score buck....they did it on purpose after finding out it was MY wifes buck.

One of the family members of AWR shot at a coyote one day and his bullet hit about 3ft in front of the yote. He swore up and down he hit it on a bank shot. I quit paying much attention to him after that.

Dennis and his wife were nice folks but was never sure I could beleive what they said.

Well he didn’t. It was joke. I had one experience with them and I stopped all correspondence after that. One of his scorers purposefully made up a score on a buck of mine, just like they did Fred’s, to keep me from interfering with the winner of the big 8 contest they had already decided was going to win. Kinda like dems did our last election. They scored a clean 148” 8 of mine at less than 135”. They didn’t know they were scoring someone’s rack who wasn’t naive. They made no effort to make it right so I wrote them off.

Thanks for the input so, is that why they went to a gross because they lost B/C credentials or have the always scored both ways until problems with B/C, but just entered their gross scoring for AWR?

they were B&C to start with till they fked up the scoring on that Greene Co buck


the current AWR typical actually is a 30+ point non typical, not a damn thing typical about that deer.

Dennis didn't approve of me NOT entering several of my bucks. We had words over it.

That's a damn shame. So if anyone did want to ever try to make a go at this they wouldn't want to use the tainted name AWR.

Greene Co, just south of Eutaw in the prairie country. I was sick at my stomach to miss a huge once in a hundred lifetimes buck. Never saw him again either.

I don’t know why people just don’t use B&C and P&Y as their standard. All this AWR and Buckmaster BS is just a dry HJ! Who cares anyway? I just killed my biggest buck a few weeks ago and it scored 166” but at the end of the day he is just a great buck that matters a lot to me and that’s all that matters. Would I love to shoot a 200” buck? Sure! But at the end he of the day, I hunt because I love it and I love all of the bucks I have been blessed to kill.

I don’t know that I have ever taken the time to score a buck. If we like him we kill him. Whether I’m in Texas or AL. Getting caught up in the numbers is just silly I think. And yes that was a fine Texas deer big bore no matter what he scored

I usually don't score the bucks I kill. I'm not against it because it gives a point of reference. I also killed my largest buck this year, and did score him, but it was more out of curiosity before I took him to the taxidermist. He scored higher than I thought he would, but I was happy no matter what he scored. He was my target buck. I did show the pic to a few friends, but I kill deer for me, not for bragging rights. My philosophy is that people should kill what makes them happy. I was looking at some of my racks the other day and was having trouble remembering the deer. The older I get, I find myself doing much more watching than killing. I am more interested in killing a mature deer than what he has on his head.

Sounds like firsthand knowledge and probably correct. I think Dennis had gotten away from the program and was focusing on sheep a good while before he died. He was an excellent businessman.
