I’ve had my eyes on this deer a lot this year. I first saw him on my first sit on this particular field in late October. The field is perched up on a knoll running north and south. To the west and wrapping around the knoll is clear cut with hardwood SMZ. The east is a hardwood bottom with about 200 foot drop. He was still in full velvet in late October but skirted the field around the knoll. I went back into the bottom he headed towards on Halloween afternoon and ended up killing another big 6 point. Fast forward to December 12th. I had him and a doe with 2 fawns in the field. The only tree to climb is 18 yds away from the feeder. A poplar that has absolutely no cover. Hunting over a feeder that close with skittish deer around is nerve racking! Anyway, long story short the doe got nervous and started walking out of the field and he was following. I managed to get drawn with 4 nervous deer walking and I stopped him with the “meh!” My single pin set on 25 and I thought he was 30 but it turned out to be about 33. Arrow sailed right behind his leg but low and white hair fell to the ground. No blood. I knew he was fine. 2 days later he was back in the field in the mornings. He’d come about two mornings in a row and then not come back for a day or so. This deer was now under my skin. I hunted him on the cold front Sunday the 19th in the afternoon. He was in there in daylight on the 18th and 19th mornings, but did not show that afternoon. I decided to give a couple days rest. Went back k this afternoon and he showed up for the first time in the afternoon since the 12th. This time there were 10 other deer with him. How will I ever get drawn!!! This time I positioned my climber to the back side of the tree so I could hide behind the tree. Worked to perfection! Several deer including him looked up at me, but shook it off and continued to feed. Finally at 30 yds I was able to draw when they all looked down the hill at something they heard. The arrow found its mark! Short track job later I had him.

Photo below shows the graze wound.

His back right leg was dislocated. I assume causing his left antler to be goofy. No wound or visible injury. Just dislocated.
