Got laid off from work back in October. Aside from being out of work, I was pretty OK with it because I was starting to hate the place and a lot of the people. I was already planning on leaving after the first of the year anyway, but really hated that those a-holes beat me to the punch. Anyways, I did not let it bring me down and was looking forward to a little sabbatical while planning to start looking for a new gig after the holidays, was fortunate to have a little money socked away to be able to coast for a little while even if it meant mama may not get her swimming pool next summer. Anyway, while on a trip with my family I was contacted by a recruiter which ultimately led to me taking a much better position with a great company, heading my own department at much better pay than the old company. So they can suck it. Moral of the story, bad shit happens sometimes, but as Rick Nielsen says, everything works if you let it.

Congrats. Great things can happen to your career when you take a jump in another direction and become slightly uncomfortable. It's an important lesson to teach your kids too.

The company that I parted ways with after 15 years has stopped paying out a shoe allowance, their health insurance has increased and they are only working three days a week due to the chip shortage. It was good while I was there but I'm sooo much happier, have less stress and have started a successful side business.
