I tried to send jono a message about the gate earlier. I could see y’all sitting down there while we were making our way out the ridge we’re hunting and I was telling Matt that I really wished I had one of your numbers so I could call. We called the number on the gate and they said it doesn’t get opened till 6:30 so we just hoofed it from there. Sure would have been nice to know that at the meeting.
Got up the tree at 6:20, so not terrible. Guy said he overslept. Bad part was my stand was already hung way past the gate so a plan B wasn’t as easy.

Yeah those rocks are tough, i almost broke my leg a couple times between them and the stump holes. Y’all seeing anything today?
Jono saw some climbing down. I saw 2 does and 2 fawns. Hunting from the ground here on out.

Sounds like the hunting has gotten tougher up there now. I killed several deer up there in the early years. Got drawn for one of the early hunts when they first started hunting OMSP. I saw three different groups of deer walk through with over 15 deer per group. I killed one adult doe that weighed 37 pounds. The deer were not skin and bones back then, they were just stunted. I can remember seeing cedar trees that had no green on them until 5 feet up from the ground. I hated those loose rocks covered with leaves, especially going down the hill. I killed a bunch of deer behind the #10 and the driving range on the golf course. Then, they made us start walking from the end of the course and that made it a little less fun to hunt in there. One thing I definitely remember is that the deer would smell you, lock down like a bird dog on point for about a minute, and then go right back to what they were doing and you could get a shot off. Not a stitch for cover anywhere though. And acorns every step anywhere you went. Killed a few deer behind the campground too. Almost saw more bucks in there than does for some reason. One year there was a small area that burned during the summer. That place was like a deer magnet the next fall. Good luck y'all.
Don't give up, don't ever give up!
