I tried to send jono a message about the gate earlier. I could see y’all sitting down there while we were making our way out the ridge we’re hunting and I was telling Matt that I really wished I had one of your numbers so I could call. We called the number on the gate and they said it doesn’t get opened till 6:30 so we just hoofed it from there. Sure would have been nice to know that at the meeting.

We watched you guys make your way across the ridge haha. I’ll pm you my number. They came and opened it but obviously got set up way later than I wanted. Bumped what seemed like 10 or so deer getting in to the spot I’m hunting

Got up the tree at 6:20, so not terrible. Guy said he overslept. Bad part was my stand was already hung way past the gate so a plan B wasn’t as easy.

Zero deer killed for anyone this week. I saw 5 this morning and 4 this afternoon in a different spot. I’m seriously considering sitting on the ground in a blow down. There just hardly any trees with cover. I’ve been busted every time. Haven’t had anything within 50 yards. No antlers for me.

Joe y’all oughta see if they’ll let you go on our section since we had to leave for the rest of the hunt. I can tell you exactly where to go to get into those bucks. Gotta climb one heck of a hill though

I actually saw a handful of deer right at dark. Put my bow up just to get ready and couldn't see my pins anyway.

Coosa, we talked about asking them, but I left my stand where I've been hunting and tomorrow morning is my last hunt. Joe is finishing the week but his dad is coming and they are going to hunt something a little more accessible I think. I should have brought my climber out and just hoofed it to that spot in the morning.....oh well!

Dang these ridges are steep! Doesn’t help that every other step is onto a loose rock.

Jono saw some climbing down. I saw 2 does and 2 fawns. Hunting from the ground here on out.

I have a guest spot that opened up for tomorrow. My dad had to have semi-emergency surgery (unexpected - trigger finger). If anyone can get off last minute tomorrow, shoot me a pm. I’ve seen 20ish in 3 days, but haven’t been able to close the deal.

Sounds like the hunting has gotten tougher up there now. I killed several deer up there in the early years. Got drawn for one of the early hunts when they first started hunting OMSP. I saw three different groups of deer walk through with over 15 deer per group. I killed one adult doe that weighed 37 pounds. The deer were not skin and bones back then, they were just stunted. I can remember seeing cedar trees that had no green on them until 5 feet up from the ground. I hated those loose rocks covered with leaves, especially going down the hill. I killed a bunch of deer behind the #10 and the driving range on the golf course. Then, they made us start walking from the end of the course and that made it a little less fun to hunt in there. One thing I definitely remember is that the deer would smell you, lock down like a bird dog on point for about a minute, and then go right back to what they were doing and you could get a shot off. Not a stitch for cover anywhere though. And acorns every step anywhere you went. Killed a few deer behind the campground too. Almost saw more bucks in there than does for some reason. One year there was a small area that burned during the summer. That place was like a deer magnet the next fall. Good luck y'all.

Don't give up, don't ever give up!
