What ever happened to back up guns? They already make you carry so much stuff on you it is hard to find a place for one. Has anyone heard what make the gun was? I suspect that M48scout may be on to something.

I don't think it was the guns fault... I could be wrong but I'm going with it based on info given

Wonder if there is body cam footage and if will be released. Seems like it could at least be used for training purposes. Wonder if a FOIA would apply to that footage.

Some of y'all may remember the incident where a "malfunction", but I rather call it the Grace of God, saved one of our local deputies, Packy Dempsey's life. For those that aren't familiar with this, Packy was going to arrest a drug dealer and they got into a fight. The bad guy got his gun but in the tussle for it the slide was racked back just enough to cause a stovepipe. Bad guy kept pointing and pulling the trigger but nothing was happening. This gave Packy enough time to get his backup and fatally shoot the bad guy. This was in the early 90's. The whole incident was on video from a camera mounted on the vehicle dashboard, which Packy paid for and put in himself. After this the County started putting them in all their vehicles. The video is still out there and has been on a number of police shows if you can find it. It started showing up everywhere so I believe Packy got it copywrited to control access. BTW, there is no doubt that this saved his butt in the political climate in Selma at the time.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The alert bulletin said the bad guy was only 135 lbs. It's hard to imagine he got overpowered by a little guy but maybe he stunned him by getting in the first punch?

So there was a round fired in the tussle, or after the bad guy got the pistol which caused a "stove pipe"? God Bless, David B.

Probably no round in chamber and "short racked" the slide. I think this is a common problem when under stress. Could have been something else but this makes most sense.

I was told by the sheriff of Dallas county at the time that packys gun was a beretta 92 and had safety on and that dead bad guy couldn’t figure safety out. I watched the video at cotton Nichols house and that was bone chilling seeing that guy standing over packy like he was.
