I just spoke to the coach and she will hold the offer until the other tryout. It is ultimately Austins decision on where she wants to play.
Team is coached by 2 parents, and then a 3rd that does not have a kid on the team.
The tournaments are all local, this is not a showcase team, they are too young for that.
The coach told me that Austin was the only one they have offered a spot to because they wanted to get her before she committed to another team.
Thanks for all the opinions.

If they said they wouldn't select until the other tryout I'd hold them to it.

If she's a decent pitcher AND a catcher AND can hit then you hold all the cards. Being up front about why you don't want to commit just yet was the best decision. The other coach will wait. I've been coaching travel ball for 5 years. My oldest is on a 16U showcase team and I am currently coaching my youngest daughter's 12U team. I completely understand why the first coach is wanting a commitment. Good pitchers are like good hunting property. They are very scarce and don't stay available long so when you find one you better pull the trigger as soon as possible. On the other hand, good coaches and good teams are also scarce so do your due diligence.

This ^^^^. Surprised she is still catching and pitching. Usually by 12U they specialize in one or the other with a few exceptions. By that age my daughter was either pitching or resting and until she moved into exposure pitched every bracket game for her team. And then it was over, she decided she didn’t want to play college ball and got more in academic scholarships than softball would have provided. A bad HS coach resulted in her not even playing her senior year of HS ( Covid killed it anyway).

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

I’ve seen high school boys do both pitching and catching. But when she pitches we always tried to have her in a different position before or after pitching.

I guess that's good if y'all are happy with the decision, but don't be surprised if the coach doesn't make good on their word. They have already proved their word means nothing.
