Sorry for your loss.
My mom turned 80 this year.
I know it has to hurt.
That is a great pic from what looks like the late 50s-60s.

Thank you everyone. Her and my dad didn’t take up deer hunting seriously until after I got married. She loved going in about 10 in the morning and sitting til dark. I don’t think she ever killed a doe. These are some pics of bucks she got early on. In the first pic she’s posing with the 2nd and 3rd bucks she ever shot. She shot the one on the left and it ran off. She thought she had missed. A few minutes passed and the second one stepped out and she dropped it. They found the other one just out of sight. I know, that wasn’t exactly legal. The second pic is one of the first ones she killed down here in Fosters.

Back around 2008 she decided she wanted to learn to shoot a bow. I set one up for her and she was a natural. On her 2nd shot from 20 yards, probably her 20th shot ever, she robin hooded an arrow. For about 3 or 4 years she travelled around the state with my son and I shooting tournaments. There wasn’t a senior women’s hunter class so she had to shoot against all the younger women. Most of the time momma whipped them.

[Linked Image]

One of her proudest moments was when my son shot the white doe from her stand. It was his second sit ever by himself. We had been seeing that doe for 3 seasons and we’re saving her for my son. My mom carried him in and helped get set up about 1 that afternoon. About 3:30 she stepped out and he got her.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 and then again in 2003. She beat it and was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2014. That eventually spread to her liver and brain. The last couple of years had been especially hard on her. The last lucid conversation I had with her was last Sunday morning about that buck I killed. She was tickled to death over it. The last text I have on my phone from her was “He looks like a cow” referring to a pic of it I had sent her. This pic was taken at my son’s white coat ceremony at Samford for pharmacy school. You can tell by that smile she’s the proudest maw maw there.

Quite the tribute Sonny! I’m sure your Mom was very proud of you and it seems you had a very special relationship with her. Those wonderful memories will comfort you in this time of loss. I pray God's blessings are poured out over you and your family.

Few more pics we found tonight going through photos.

My mom, dad, brother and sister with me on my wedding day, June 22,1991. Can’t remember what my dad said, but it embarrassed the hell out of her 😆
