I moved a stand, set up a ground blind. I got a tad hot

A doe and fawn come into the plot at 3:50 and fed for 15 minutes before easing on into the thicket

Talked to the neighbor, we're gonna hunt in the morning. Then were all gonna go look again.

Got my first Iowa deer today. Got her on public land with my bow. Quick shout out for monotech broad heads. Hit the off shoulder and penetrated but didn’t pass all the way through. Broadhead was still sharp and true. Funny thing is that when I was dragging her out I passed two other hunters that didn’t go as far in. Oddly none offered to grab a leg and pull. Younger bucks are starting to bump does so it’s about to get good!

My buddy that saw the big buck yesterday got set up in a ground blind this afternoon 25 yards from the trail they came out on. 6:00 or so he said the first buck out of the bachelor group started coming out into the field in just the right spot when a coyote came walking up into the middle of things. Said about the time the first buck turned around to leave he noticed that the big buck was right behind him and left too. Dang coyote messed up a perfect plan. I had a good buck come out at about 80yds this afternoon but he never got any closer.

Well, something happened at 5:45pm this evening. I had the most picture perfect hunt I’ve ever had. The plan worked and I got a 37 yard shot on him. I’ll post up more details in another thread later today sometime. Got him in a cooler down at my buddy’s place. Gonna head back down and take some “hero” daylight pics of him. Hit him a little lower than I intended and he was angled to me more than I realized. After checking blood at the shot sight we feared the worst and backed out. Went back in just after 10 and found him about 400 yards away. Shot was better than we thought. How he made it that far and lived as long as he did l’ll never know. He hadn’t been dead long when we found him. We estimated he was going to be pushing 230#. He tipped the scales at 247#.
