Just a heads up for bourbon drinkers. Do not waste your money on the Blue Note Juke Joint Uncut. It is possibly the worst whiskey I’ve ever drank. It wasn’t good neat, didn’t get any better on the rocks, splash of water didn’t wake it up…it won’t even make a decent mixed drink. Disappointing to say the least, it came highly recommended from a fellow brown water fan. Thank goodness I grabbed a couple bottles of ol’faithful Four Roses just in case.

***I’m on the hunt for some Black Patch Whiskey bottled in Madison, AL if anybody knows of a store around B’ham or Hwy280 that stocks it.***

Just found this on their website when I went to send them a complaint for how this swill tastes, no wonder it tastes like trash.

(apologies for the Eddie 49er copy/paste bomb)

Blue Note Juke Joint Survivor Barrels

In June of 2019, the rickhouse that stored much of Blue Note’s inventory collapsed in a terrible summer storm, spilling thousands of barrels and millions of dollars into the muck and mud. Most of the barrels were destroyed by the incredible force of nearly 10 million pounds crumbling six stories to the ground.

We thought all was lost, but a special few somehow survived the disaster. Surviving the collapse, however, turned out to be only the beginning of the barrels’ journey.

For the next four months, the barrels were left exposed to the elements before the wreckage could be properly assessed and cleaned up. In these ensuing months, the sweltering summer heat bore down upon the barrels day after day, darkening the outside and forcing the bourbon inside incredibly deep into the oak. Several thunderstorms passed through as well, pummeling the barrels for days, causing their bands to later rust and break. As summer faded into fall, the nights grew colder, forcing the whiskey back out of the now worn oak. After the wreckage was cleaned up and every barrel was assessed, the company found that indeed some had survived.

Like these barrels, we have all faced incredible hardships across the course of the pandemic as the safety, stability, and comfort of the shelter we took for granted collapsed all around us. In an effort to celebrate life and perseverance, we have curated from our special lot of survivor barrels a select few barrels to release to the market under our new Blue Note Bourbon Uncut label. Going forward, not every barrel of Blue Note Bourbon Uncut will be a survivor barrel. Therefore, if you want to taste a truly rare bourbon with an even rarer story, we encourage you to try a bottle of this year’s 2021 survivor barrel release.

Really? I tried some and thoroughly enjoyed it. But then, I’ve never claimed to be a bourbon connoisseur, I just drink what I like and don’t drink what I don’t. If it needs a home, send it my way!

EDIT: I don’t know if mine was a “survivor barrel” though

I’ve heard similar about the 1792 “aged at sea” stuff. Heard some is good and some is bad...basically because of the huge variance in conditions while aging

It’s so bad it almost tastes like something is wrong with this bottle. Hard to imagine this being the target flavor profile. I’m talking week old gym shorts and musty tennis shoes on the nose with a curdled g-string finish. I was nice enough on the email I sent them. Will be interesting to see how they respond.

The only thing special about that story is that the barrels survived the weight of the building. All whiskey is aged 4 or more years. Continuously heating up during the summer and cooling in the winter. Top barrels are the prize whiskey. A barrel of Jack Daniels from the top uncut and unblended is between $15k- $18k and due to the evaporation there’s only about 30 gallons in the barrel.

Curdled g-string, you say. Well the pH is all wrong in both examples.

I commiserate.

You may be referring to Jefferson’s Ocean. Never heard of 1792 making an aged at sea.

To the OP, I agree. Blue Note is not good.

I almost picked up a bottle of that blue note when I was in the ABC store today. Glad I didn’t now. Grabbed this instead.

If you're a whiskey / bourbon guy. Try this.

You’re correct, it was Jefferson’s. I misspoke
