You know what really blows my mind? People get those dogs and have them around kids, and then seem shocked when the dog kills one of their children.

For real. Every time a pit or Rottweiler kill somebody or attack the owners ALWAYS say “ that’s the first time my dogs ever acted like that “. It’s like they’ve brainwashed their self to think the dog lost all its bred instincts to kill at will just because it’s their dog.

I saw the title and thought Pitbull before reading. I know there are good ones out there but you never hear anyone killed by a Lab, Golden Retriever, Brittany or even German Shepherds....just sayin

No, but my cuz's lab took a chunk out of my leg...i'm guessing because i brought the wrong kind of beer. They're animals and will do animal chit, no matter the breed.

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

My grandparents are 87 and 84. They have a pitbull that used to be their son's who passed away 4 years ago. It don't mess with me and I don't mess with him. He is really a good dog who does provide some protection for them if it was needed.

However, I can't take my grandkids to see them and it breaks my heart. But they understand. We have fish fries and cookouts at my house so they can play with their grandkids.

Obviously there are dangerous dogs in all breeds but if I hear "someone is walking down the street and mauled to death" I honestly think Pitbull first.

There is an old saying...."when you hear hoofbeats, think horses not elephants".

By the Numbers: Dangerous Dogs
So how exactly do we measure the “dangerous-ness” of a dog breed? And what factors should we be looking at? There is no correct method or 100% accurate way of measuring how dangerous a dog is. Instead, we have to make use of the data we have.

That said, we measure these dangerous breeds based on two statistics:

How many human fatalities (deaths) caused by this dog breed
How many attacks from this breed have been reported
Aggressive dogs and their attacks on human have been a heated controversial topic ever since the beginning of the domestication of dogs. And in the 1990’s, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) decided to examine the data on these attacks.

They discovered that the Pit Bull was the most dangerous breed in the United States (between 1979 and 1996). In fact, Pit Bulls were involved in 60 fatal incidents, which is more than double the number of incidents of the second place Rottweiler (29 incidents).

But of course, there are always exceptions in addition to many external factors that can play into this. We’re also not trying to generalize all dogs in a breed as dangerous or aggressive. This is simply objective data and facts we can use to measure how dangerous dogs are.

Fatal Dog Attacks – The Report
Of course these dog attacks haven’t stopped since the 90’s. Picking up where the CDC left off, DogsBite.org also conducted an investigation on fatal U.S. dog attacks (from 2005 to 2017).

Not only did they record the attacks, but also: victim’s age, number of dogs involved and consequent punishment (if any). What’s alarming is that the Pit Bull accounted for 66% of all fatalities in the 13-year span. That’s 284 deaths from 2005 to 2017.

The second place Rottweiler accounted for less than 11% of fatal attacks with a mere 45 deaths. The story is in the data. And the data tell us that the Pit Bull is by far, the most dangerous dog breed in the world.

My girlfriends daughter has a pit that is one of the sweetest dogs ever. BUT they live 8 miles off the road on 12 acres of land. They don’t live in a neighborhood around children and other peoples dogs. It’s irresponsible to own one in a neighborhood or within sight of other peoples homes knowing they could harm someone. My next door neighbor has one. Was a sweet dog. I even let my dog play with it a few times when it was a puppy. One night out of the blue and unprovoked it attacked him and he had to get 14 stitches. He still has the dog too?? Be dead if it was my dog.

I think CDC and dogbite org, uses news articles and eyewitness statement from the medical report. Basically just a google search, if the article uses the term assault dog then thats what they list in their stats. Take from that what you will.

Yes, I think you are correct!

The dogbite.org has a lot more info I didn't post but they do break the bites/deaths down by those reports that show a photo of the dog vs those reports where breeds were reported but no dog photo noted. Pitbull's still surpassed other breeds with or w/out photos.

People can say what they want bout pit bulls I’ve owned three and just recently lost two of them still have one that doesn’t even know how to bark might I add. But none ever showed aggression. Earlier years of pit bulls was game dogs, bred to be that way. The bulky ones now u don’t see the same traits. Yes u will have some bad apples but all you’ll ever hear about is the pit bull attacks.

2am or 2pm makes difference. The owner should be accountable.
