I am looking at a 3/4 ton 21' Chevy 6.6 gas burner with a 6 speed transmission. Is the 6 speed transmission reliable ? I am currently not considering a 1/2 ton due to all of the transmission issues with the 8 and 10 speed transmissions. Any feedback would be appreciated.

If it’s got an Allison transmission in it you will be fine. The Allison transmissions I’m my opinion are about the best you can have in a 3/4 truck

Don’t think gas burners have Allison in them. The new 6.6 have all the afm garbage unlike the 6.0’s.

Are you sure they have AFM? Everything I have read says they don't. That is one of the reasons I am looking at the 3/4 vs 1/2 ton.

The L8T 6.6L engine is not equipped with Active Fuel Management (AFM), Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM), or Auto Stop-Start.

That's good to know. Would yall think the 6 speed transmission would be reliable ? I think it may be the same transmission that was in the 6.0.

That’s good to hear! I was thinking they had put all the fuel management garbage on them.

21 half ton with the AFM had to have new heads at 11,000 miles. This is a truck where I work
