We’ve noticed a good number of folks that have added security gates to their driveways. Spend
personal money how you want, but what doesn’t make much sense is how in plenty of cases one could just right through the yard past the gate. Am I missing something here?

I have a driveway gate....full wooden fence on each end of that gate....6×6 posts set in concrete 4 feet apart with 2x6 for fence boards. My driveway is a quarter mile long....one way in and one way out. My gate stays locked more than it stays open. If someone comes down my drive I know it wink

Almost the same setup for me. Our gate is automatic. It stays closed unless we're having a get together. Outside of 5 people with the code, you call me to get in. Best thing I've ever done!

I have an electric gate on mine and my drive is a little over 1/4 mile.

These houses with gates but no fences might be waiting for lumber prices to come down before they install their fence.
That’s something that came to mind.

One of our biggest issues was meth heads driving up asking if we had anything to give away or people wanting an old barn. The gate, even without a fence, would stop all of that. It won't stop a criminal, but it will keep them from just knocking on your door. About the third time a truck load of trash pulled up with my wife home by herself, I decided enough was enough.

x3 on gate being the best thing we’ve added. Ours is electric, but would be more secure if we locked it with a chain like we did originally. It’s not Fort Knox security, but it tells folks that you don’t voluntarily enter this driveway. Worked so far. We have had barbed wire, wood, and 5 foot dog wire for the side fence. I prefer the dog wire of those. One day I’ll get fabricated steel with metal sheeting.

We had the meth heads coming by all along but the worst problem we had was people coming halfway down the drive to take a piss! Happened 4 or 5 times a week. Once we even had a couple of bikers pull down and park under one of my pines for a picnic even left their trash there for me to pick up.

So tell me this- those with long driveways, did you run power from your house to the gate or have a separate meter set?

When i build on my property my shop will be closer to the paved rd than my house will be. I will have a automatic gate. Dont need anyone driving out my driveway looking around. If they do it they going to have to come over the fence and walk in. Too many dopeheads pulling into homes driveways and scoping things out.

Solar and battery. Going on 3 years. No issues. Battery still good.

I have two power bills, one from my house and one from the road between lights and gate. And they’re different power companies because they intersect so one gets the house and the other gets the road.

This is what I have, except mine isn't smart phone ready. They didn't have that when I got mine. I also have a marine deep cycle battery, but a small one.

We still do it the old fashioned way. Lock..chain...and key. Wife and I are only ones with key.

eight foot tall, 14ft wide gate at road, old fashioned BIG lock, stays locked. Absolutely the best thing I did at my house. No lookers or pissers. We have LOTS of meth hears around here. Eight foot chain link fence to sides of gate. Posted signs.

House is protected by a big ass dog that is loud and will bite like the hammer of Thor.

So question for y’all with gates. Does the ups and fedex just leave the packages at the gate if you order something?

I built a package box at the gate for boxes. Also ran power 300 yards from house to gate for camera and lights.
