Just received my check in the mail after not being drawn for a Kansas tag. I paid a total of $556 after fees. The check I received is only for $415. It looks like they are trying to NOT reimburse you for the actual hunting license

So the problem is that they require you to buy a license to enter the lottery. I understand that they keep a fee and award you a preference point for next year. Does anyone else who didn’t draw know how to get reimbursed for the hunting license that I have no use for? I’ve tried calling and no one ever answers the phone.

Keep calling. Maybe someone will finally answer and give a chit.

But I doubt it...

I have buddies who entered 2 different groups for tags. None drew. Must be getting crowded out there. I’ll ask if they got their $$ back.

Don't blame me for your bad decision-

Be persistent and an A-hole. Email them everyday and call their office too. Don't take no for an answer.

This will get you nothing. Pretty sure they tell you before you apply that only the tag fee is refundable. I got my check in the mail yesterday.

Most (if not all) states that have a drawing system for tags require you to buy a hunting license in order to apply for tags.

I’m not aware of any states that give you that money back. I buy licenses in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and a few other western states each year applying for sheep tags. I never see that money again.

I was always given all of my money back except for the preference point fee when I hunted Iowa and didn’t draw.

N2TRKYS and I didn’t draw Wyoming tags this year for mule deer. With Canada having the border shutdown, I guess it upped the number of folks applying for tags out west. That was a thump in the balls. Sure was looking forward to a Wyoming hunting trip this year.

Several western states have implemented the same thing in recent years. It is fairly new in Colorado and New Mexico. As demand for game species increases, I expect more states to follow suit.

When I use to hunt Illinois, you did not have to buy a license to enter the tag lottery. I always purchased the license after I drew a tag.

One of the methods to increase revenue under the excuse of slowing “point creep”. They want to make sure you have skin in the game to participate.
