do you have to have a loop on your bow string to shoot a release , or can you just put your release on the bow string below the arrow?

I shot with my release on the string for well over a decade. You’ll wear through the serving, causing it to need to be reserved from time to time.

You don’t have to, but you need an eliminator button or something under the nock to keep the release from pinching it. I used D-loop material. Another disadvantage besides the one already listed is having to snap your nock back on the string if you let down. I really don’t see any advantages for hooking directly to the string anymore.
