I don't claim to be an expert on DPMS Gen 1 vs Gen 2, but the two or three Gen 2's I've seen have had a funky looking "curl" machined around the mag release button, which this one doesn't have.

I don't claim to be an expert on DPMS Gen 1 vs Gen 2, but the two or three Gen 2's I've seen have had a funky looking "curl" machined around the mag release button, which this one doesn't have. Doesn't have the larger mag well bevel, rounded integral trigger guard, or longer ejection port either. The biggest tell is how far the lower receiver extends beyond the top edge of the grip. The Gen 2 guns stop almost flush with the grip like a standard AR 15. this one is much longer.
