I’m on a hardwood ridge surrounded by a pine thicket. Looked like a good strutting place for an old Tom. Gonna try and make up for the miss yesterday. Good luck to everybody.

I’m so pumped! A young man I’ve been tryin to help with advice on his first bird just called me at work and he had 3 hammering it he was texting whole time asking what to do gave him advice told him to put his phone down and do as I say the bird pitches down straight to him and he connected on his first bird. Hate I couldn’t be there with him but I welcomed him to our addiction

One gobbled a long ways away, shut up now. Might should of tried getting closer to him. Didn’t want to leave my spot. Still learning. How often you call when sitting in a spot and haven’t heard any birds?

I’ve been trying to wait about 30 mins between calls.

Chad

Had one gobble this morning about 12x on the limb. Circled back and got to what I thought was the ridge across from him and hasn’t gobbled since. The last time he gobbled I felt like he was on the ground headed away from me.

How long I sit in one spot depends on how much sign I find in the area and what's going on around me.
If you have Tom's you can kill Tom's. If one is gobbling move in on him. If you strike out then go over what you think you did wrong and learn. Ask any veteran turkey hunter that's not ego driven and they will tell you they still make mistakes. Just not as often. You will come up empty more than you connect. I have hunted many years and am still learning. There's a stickey at the top with advice. There's good info there.

I moved on him and believe I found him in a green field. He’s not answering any calls and just strutting in the back. I slipped behind the field and called to no response. I’m going nba sit here awhile and call every so often.

Ah...the old "when to move, when to stay" dilemma. It haunts us all. Every scenario is different. Been chasing them for decades and I still haven't figured out a sure fire answer. More on a gut feeling. I've sat tight for over an hour and had him come in silent after not hearing a peep. I've also moved and bumped them and moved and killed them. One thing that I've learned is it's hard to connect on one from behind him. By trying to chase him down. If he's going away, try to circle or flank him. They don't usually back track and come straight back from where they just were. At least, that's my experience.

Trying to call a turkey out of a field is hard to do most of the time. If you have any idea which way he will head when he leaves I would try to get there.

Good luck fellers!
