One more time please.....
My son is starting a new job and wants to get started with stocks, and he said he’s scared of Robinhood now.
Who else is reputable and affordable?
Thanks

Any of the big ones are going to be fine. It’s pretty much free to trade stocks nowadays. TD Ameritrade has a great software called Think or Swim to use if you have an account. It’s the best free to use software you’ll find. Just my .02.

I've got TDAmeritrade and Robinhood that I piddle with a little. I don't like messing with too many individual stocks due to the volatility of it. Has he started in on any index or mutual funds yet? If not, I would recommend him looking into that.

Index funds and ETFs are what I'm comfortable with too.

Globe, if your son is wanting something targeting futuristic growth, he should check out the ARK ETF's.

I use Fidelity and Vanguard. Both are great, but I do use Fidelity the most.

I’ve heard that Fidelity has the better user interface.
They also have some true 0.00% expense ratio funds which is an industry first.

Thank y’all! No he hasn’t done any investing as of yet (just personal savings). He’s 20 and wants to start early.
Other than my 401k I haven’t either, but I’d like to start.

The sooner both of you start, the better. He's fortunate he is starting at age 20.

Generally accepted investing order of operations is.

401K to the employer match.
HSA if it's available.
IRA to $6,000 per year(I like Roth).
Max out 401K to $19,500.
Brokerage account.

I really wish that someone would have explained to me (and made me listen) how compound interest worked when I was 20. Time is something you can never get back.

Albert Einstein famously said that compound interest is the most powerful force in the universe. He said, “Compound interest is the 8th wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn't, pays it".

No kidding. An extra 5-7 years tacked on right now would be nice. I remember people telling me to “save” at a young age, but no one took the time to explain the “How’s and What’s”. Globe, I challenge you to ensure that he gets started investing some money on a regular basis, even if he only starts with $25 a week and raises that as he can. With him being interested, it would be a great opportunity for the both of you to hold each other accountable and tackle as a team. thumbup

Globe, when it comes time for your son to buy his first house whenever that might be.
Have him consider something that has a space for a renter like a basement, guest house or duplex.
An extra $500-1,000 per month is game changer for most people.

I wish I would have done that.
Having income producing real estate in the mix is a good idea.
