Well me and my wife have sold our house while the market is strong. We are in process of building ( framing now ). We are moving in her parents basement for the next 6 months until home is done ( this parents basement deal is going to be a experience in itself ). I’ve always heard the process of packing and moving is exhausting and bad. We thought it would actually be easy because we don’t have that much stuff only been married 4 years and our current home is only 1600 sq ft 3 bed 2 bath. Let me just tell you, you have more stuff than you realize I’m on box 15 and that’s just my hunting room.. clothes, memorabilia, photos, etc. This is going to be a PROCESS!! We have 2 weeks to get it done.

Congrats on building a house.
Brave dude with building costs where they're at.

It sucks for sure but the possibilities for the future are greater than the pain in the ass that you are currently experiencing. Congrats on the new start these are exciting times!

Might I suggest calling Mobile Attic in Athens. Like pods but a local company that will store your things until you are ready for them. Load it once and unload it once vs load it and unload it to a storage locker then load again to take to your place and then unload at your new place. Worked out well for us anyways.

If you need tax documents and other important paperwork, store it in a location you can remember and get to.

Unfortunately, I'm about to go through the same process and am leaving a 3200 SF house plus thee garages. I called Motivated Movers and they gave me a separate hourly quote for packing. When I was in the Air Force, I was used to a turn-key operation by the movers. This time I'll have to pay but at my age, it will be worth every penny.

I’ve never understood it. Just rent a house of your own, if possible beers

We moved in Sept....I tend to be a little cheap. (Ok, I'm really cheap). I was set on doing it ourself so we rented a U-Haul and loaded/unloaded everything ourselves. Turns out, I'm an idiot. Not only was it a colossal pain in the ass, it rained all day. If we ever move again, I'll hire someone without giving it a 2nd thought.

I will never move myself again, ever. In my opinion the money that it cost to just pay somebody it is well worth it. I have paid the last three times we moved. Well worth every penny.

Because of the exodus out of California the cost of one way Uhauls is insane.
Like $6,500 from LA to Dallas. $800 from Dallas to LA.

Lucky for me, my wife is very organized and a lot of stuff is already in plastic bins. We also did a massive donation/giveaway but it still will be a lot of stuff. Just my hunting/fishing/motorcycle stuff will be a challenge but that's what the man will be for.

You say that until you get that quote from 10 years from now and say "from what I remember it wasn't that bad".

🤣🤣🤣
