If I was looking in Mississippi, I would want to see 5 years worth of kill numbers. Would expect the numbers for the last 3 years to be bad. If the numbers were consistently good then I would be very suspect. Look for a club that had lowering duck numbers but increasing speck kills.
Finally, learn to blow a speck call well. sage advice, along with the previously stated "above HWY 82". if not above 82, then as far south Delta as you can get. standard farming practices, due to dryer fall/winter, has created the "rowed up mud hunter" syndrome through the mid-Delta (south of 82). I was explained to why north of 82 is better waterfowl hunting and it is due solely to the lack of major water structures installed north of 82, ie: south of 82 is more well drained. it was MUCH harder to cut through all of the junk north of 82, therefore less were installed due to more work having to be done to prep the site than in the south Delta (below 82).

Explain rowed up mud hunter. I went around tunica this year and we hunted fields that had been fallow and then just flooded. To me that didn’t make sense. I wouldve assumed they would have been the panted and had some crops left standing.

Were you hunting moist soil?

The land has been worked after harvest and a seed bed has been created (rows) before flooding. Once water is taken off of the field and it is close to planting time, it is burned down and readied to plant. No available food. Your fallow fields have natural food (seed) and a firm bottom once flooded. Rowed up mud has no food, is a pain to walk in and is a general muddy mess.

I went over there and hunted a couple weekends and I was surprised at the amount of mud I saw. No food and I don't think they had a ton of water either. I've been hunting couple times a year for over 20 years because it is easy to get there from here.
Hit or miss pretty well sums it up. But this past season I was surprised at the mud as far as you could see in some places and what appeared to be ZERO food.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

.... and what appeared to be ZERO food. That was no mirage. It takes more than an acre of beans per 1000 acres of mud to do any good and with "booked" bushels there aren't many farmers willing to leave any, due to fear of missing their "book" by degraded harvest...most are (or think) they are too close to the amount booked to be shorted on quality or trash.
