I grew up in Western NY in a tiny farm town just a few miles of Lake Ontario. We had many cold days etc but one that sticks out was 30 years ago next month we had the biggest ice storm of my life. It was bizarre for me because it happened a couple of days before I left for basic training. Trees were encased in ice more than 1/4” thick, they looked like crystal, actually pretty amazing looking. Of course my parents had to deal with the damage, loss of power, everything shut down etc. My mind was just focused on getting away from everyone and getting on with my life. I’ve been in Alabama for thirty years this July.
