Decades ago I drove my Jeep way back in old ten road I think at Coosa WMA and man it was cold. Fell asleep in my climber and woke up after dark kinda out of it, but evidently I had gotten so cold I could barely get down the tree. Left my climber hanging and stumbled back to the jeep and my hands were so cold I couldn't get my keys out of my pocket. Finally did and couldn't get the key in the ignition my hands were so numb couldn't feel them. Finally did.

I haven't heard anyone mention the Old Ten Road in many years. I killed several deer out of the hollow just before you turn right onto it from the Ridge Road.

The coldest temperature measured so far in Birmingham was -6 degF on January 21, 1985. At the time, I worked as a casting floor supervisor at McWane Pipe and had to be there at 5am every morning. The casting area was roofed but uninsulated so the casting machine water cylinders were frozen solid and we couldn't make pipe that day.

popcorn Been to a few places/countries that I didn't even want to take a pee break. Amazing what the human body can endure. Pain is but a figment of our imagination. Cold water immersion and 15ft. down in a swimsuit. I'll have to say, a bed with a woman that doesn't love you.

I remember hunting one morning about 20 years ago when the low was about 8*. Back then I hunted from a climber only. Got there before sun up and could only sit there until about 8am. I had walked through a slough to get to the stand. My pant bottoms were wet and dripped water and my boots froze to the stand. I lowered my rifle down and had to step out of my boots and use my knife to pry and chip the ice away enough that I could get the boots off, all while about 30' up and no lifeline (cause I was young and stupid back then).

As I have gotten older I wouldnt hunt in 8* again unless I was in a house with windows and a propane heater, and even then probably not.

I love my country, but don't trust my government.

Coldest I have ever been was duck hunting in a flat bottom boat, on Lake Guntersville. It was so cold, the ducks froze and couldn't fly. Lol

SERE school in the mountains during winter. Once we got captured they stripped us down, made us stand in formation, and proceeded to fire hose us down that night for what seemed like hours. Coldest I've ever been. Bonafide jackhammer shivering. I'll never forget some guys chin digging into the back of my shoulder as we were trying to huddle together and his damn whiskers felt like knives. Guy in front of me had a tattoo on his back that said, "this too shall pass." I can't remember the rest of the night. It was nuts.

I fell through the ice a several times as a kid. One time I remember going all the way in to my neck and had to walk over a mile to get home. I just remember that warm bath feeling like boiling water.

Many nights of having stuff freeze on the counter in the same room. You know it is cold when the beer freezes next to you.

Whose ready to move to Russia? Great stories in here. Fortunately I haven't had to succumb to much cold beyond feeling like your toes were gonna come off with your socks

Get some of High Level Alberta in winter. You can only work outside on a 15 minute shift. You know your in the wrong place when every parking lot has a plug in for a block heater.

Not me but my Father. He was a civilian contractor working on a U.S. Army base in what was then called Thule Greenland. He had several tales about it but a few things stuck in my mind.
#1. All of the tents and buildings had inner and outer doors. In certain weather conditions they were absolutely forbidden to have both doors open at the same time. You closed the door you just went through securely before opening the other door. Failure to do that meant immediate termination from the job. There were no second chances.
#2. During a white out they were required to stay indoors period. Only exception was for a medical emergency. Then you had to rope off to a partner and also to the building in which you were exiting. Again, failure to follow the rules meant you would be on the next plane back to the States.
#3. #2 was in place after they found a man frozen pretty much solid after he had been missing for about an hour. He was found less than a hundred yards from one of the tent barracks.

Y'all can have that kind of cold. As for me, I'll stay in Alabama and gladly miss out on those big paychecks that come from colder regions.

Yep. I hunted one popular bottom and back then it was heavily hunted and I remember several times someone came in on me and we had deer come between us and we would both be looking them over for antlers at the same time. Man I don't hunt that way anymore. One time I had an owl fly past me right at dark and the next guy down shot, pretty sure he shot the damn owl! Crazy stuff. Also was bowhunting one time and it was squirrel season too and some guy near me shot a nice buck and it came limping past me. Pissed me off. Never could find it. The guy hauled ass when I yelled out a string of profanity at him.

Either Edmonton Alberta in March or Denver Airport in Feburary. Left Huntsville headed to El Paso one afternoon in Feburary with shorts, a t shirt and tennis shoes on. Had a layover in Denver that turned into a cancelled flight. United Airlines put us up in a hotel until the next afternoon. Standing in the tram way at Denver Airport waiting on the hotel shuttle bus in shorts and a t shirt in February is miserable.

You guys have some great stories! We used to have a camp on Little Lizard creek in the Mobile Tensaw Delta. I used to run that river at night in a 14 foot stauter built boat. Even for south Alabama it was cold. My son just joined the Alabama National Guard. He leaves in July to go to Fort Leonard Wood and will be gone for 21 weeks. I rekin I'll get to go up there in the winter and see some snow.

First time I went pheasant hunting in Nebraska. Wind chill about -16 degrees. My eyes would water and instantly freeze to the point that sometimes my lids would stick together. So dang cold we didn’t care who shot, just fill the limit of 3 birds each. Probably coldest I’ve ever been.
