Dealing with people that have nothing to lose isnt much fun. When I posted some of my newly bought property (15mins from my house ) I had a dose of crazy. Resulted in multiple people going to jail and me nearly getting killed. Held at gun point/shot at etc. guy up the street had been hunting it for years as the landowners lived in florida and never been to the land. It was life changing for me

No doubt some rough people and no excuses for the arson, however Butler blaming everyone in the community is pretty crappy too.

The rich people from the I-70 corridor waltz in and don't understand the history or how to interact with those who have lived in the area. There is a ton of history about land seizures that have made many locals resistant to authority (and rightly so). Many of their family farms were taken from them in the late 1960s to create the public land "everybody enjoys." The national scenic riverways were not voluntary sold. While the feds promised locals continued use of the resources to ease tensions they have gone back on many of those promises.

In the Meramec river valley (1970s) the lands of locals were taken to build a lake. When the lake project was cancelled the land was sold to the highest bidders (not the original owners) who were mostly urban. You can bet the areas most of these people and their grandparents were raised on and hunted on were posted overnight.

Echo park was a property the govt had wanted for years. The owner had parties there and the feds busted it for drugs and seized his land. Guess who ended up with it. Yep, new state park!

My guess is Mr. Butler didn't make many friends upon moving to the area especially considering his comments about blaming the whole culture. While I'll say again nobody deserves to have property.destroyed I'm not sure he played his cards right or still.understands what the underlying issues are.

I'll also add that I have several friends with land and cabins in the ozarks. I have roamed these places my whole life (I am a river smallmouth nut). I've never had any issues nor have my friends who own places there. But we aren't from the cities and don't believe we are there to teach them locals how to act.

You aren't going to legislate everyone enjoying life, you can give them free money, free phones, free medical and dental, free college, give them guns and take away guns from the law abiding, they are still going to be miserable in their lives.

You can bet your sweet ass that I would be administering some back woods justice to whomever did it, especially if the elected justice system fails to.

My buddies in Illinois are in law enforcement and unfortunately didn't live on their little block of paradise, one of them had busted a guy for meth in the little town close to their property (talk about rough, he told me he busted 18 meth labs in a 6 month span in a town of only 5000 people) shocked anyway, they had taken an old 100yr old barn and poured a slab under part of it and finished the inside like the guy in that story, it was crude but very comfortable and had everything they owned hunting related in it, well...ol meth head had gotton drunk and had found out that was his barn outside of town a ways and burned it to the ground....four wheelers, tractor, stands, grinder, cuber, freezers, all they're mounts, antlers, I mean everything....... well.....couple months later a young lady approached him and asked his name and began to tell him about her boyfriend beating her ass all the time, and bragged to her one nite drunk about setting the fire and that she would testify to it..... shocked Spent a lot of great nights in that old barn Man, I hate its gone..... frown At least they got that sob...

Can be the same when leasing land as well.

Heard a story of someone that leased 80 acres in Hale County. Local black guy told him that he hunted it before and that he would keep hunting it.

GW tried, but in the end they continued to hunt it. It shouldn't surprise anyone though. Folks have ZERO respect for property rights of others.

I see it all of the time.

When we had our last Sheriff in Winston county we had no problem getting rid of trespassers/poachers. We're still training this new one but he's starting to get the message. You take a heck of a risk going on another man's property without permission, that's all i'll say. Most of them ain't near as slick as they think they are.
