I've never even attended one of the contests. I know that at least some of those guys that win them are really good turkey hunters, but something about the commercialization of both hunting and fishing has always bothered me. I don't question anyone's right to do it, but I've never cared to participate.

No doubt that I am kinda weird. I have bass fished all my life and never entered a tournament of any kind. I guess I hunt and fish for different reasons than most people, but I honestly would have trouble articulating what they are. Good luck to those of you who compete.

Though I will add that beautiful calling is about the last thing needed to turkey hunt. It would be like a fly tying contest for fishermen.

BTW, I think setting up right and understanding what the turkey wants to hear or do are the most important. Calls, guns, and camo are all just things to waste time and money on. Though wasting time and money can be fun too.
