If she’s not an experienced shooter I would encourage you to take her to a range that lets you rent guns to see what feels good in her hands and she can shoot well. My wife carries a 380 Glock G42. Tons of options out there though.

Best thing to buy is a training class from a trainer. Even 4 hours of fundamentals properly taught will save a life.

When you get her one that she likes make sure that she practices and becomes proficient with it and practices drawing her weapon from whatever type of holster you get her.

.357 ruger lcr with crimson trace green laser
She shoots .38 for practice with no problem.
She shoots at the range with very good accuracy. She is also able to shoot thru old purses at the farm.
We dont often put her in situations where she is alone and the only carrier but it is nice to know she is competent with it and not have to show her protection.
She can walk to her car with her hand on the revolver and fire without ever drawing.

^^This^^. No hammers to get snagged on. Nothing to do except pull the trigger. As mentioned above, yeah it may not be super accurate at 25 yards to a novice but like I was once told, if you’re shooting someone out past 20’, you better have a very good attorney.
