On management areas this weekend ... I had almost forgot about that.

I was planning to hunt a WMA Sunday, but a friend reminded me of the youth hunt.

No bow hunting during scheduled youth hunts.

I was looking at the map and permit for Oakmulgee and it indicated that the youth hunt was scheduled for the 14th only. I need to get clarification on this as I was planning on hunting down there this Sunday.

I just got a reply from the DCNR stating that the map for Oakmulgee is correct and that the youth hunt will be Saturday only so I will be in the woods on Sunday.

A warden told me that the whole state wether on public or private land was youth only during the youth days. Things can get too darned complicated sometimes. I dont like my private land being closed to me. Good luck Abe

Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.

Youth Only **Gun Hunting** ... you can still bow hunt anywhere EXCEPT the WMA lands.
Only the WMA is closed to bow hunting for the youth days.

Your game warden probably misunderstood the question.

Adults can still bowhunt private land. Season is not closed. Just remember to wear orange now.

This is only one section of the Web Page and other parts may override this statement

"Special Youth (Under 16) Deer Hunting
November 13-16, 2009
Statewide, (includes all Privately Owned and Leased Lands and Open Permit - Public Lands [except Wildlife Management Areas]).

•Dog hunting in those counties or parts of counties where and how it is allowed during the regular dog deer hunting season
•Same legal arms and ammunition apply as in the Unantlered Deer season, in accordance with Rule 220-2-.119.

See the 2009-10 Wildlife Management Area Schedule for youth deer hunting dates and other information."

I'm not sure exactly what you asked the game warden.
But (except for WMA's) you can can bow hunt, anywhere that you have permission to hunt, during the youth hunt dates.
The only person(s) allowed to deer hunt with a firearm, during those dates, are youth under 16.

The point I was making, when I started this topic, was to remind folks that we are not allowed to bow hunt on WMA lands during the scheduled youth hunts.

I had forgotten about it, and I was planning to hunt a WMA this coming Sunday, but I was reminded of the youth hunt. So I was only reminding others that might have made the same mistake.

Outback,

Read my post, we are allowed to hunt certain WMA's during the youth hunt. Oakmulgee is only having a youth hunt on the 14th. Read the back of the permit and the website.

My Black Warrior permit does not show the youth hunt but my Sam Murphy permit does. Does this mean I can bowhunt BW tomorrow?

Yes, if they don't have a youth hunt scheduled, you can bow hunt.
