Done something different today. Just my son and myself. I had no idea if we’d be successful so I decided to not invite anyone else to reduce expectations. We started off in 500’. Caught a few fish there but made a long run to 950’ on some live bottom. It produced well for us. We caught several different species of fish including snowy grouper yellow edge grouper, mingos and a big ass barrel fish. He was fully grown at 23 lbs. I didn’t know exactly how big those get but I read they get “up to” 25 lbs. It looked like a giant shad with eyeballs the size of a baseball. Going to be tasty.

That is awesome! Great haul!

Regarding method, we deep dropped for the first time last November. Ran out of Destin Harbor. Like y’all, we started out moderate but were pushing 1K before we called it a day. I was skeptical in the beginning, but that ended up being just about the best quality/quantity trip I have ever taken. We caught a few mingo and white but we loaded the dang boat with some of the biggest scamp I have ever seen. Well worth the run!

We were 70 nautical miles from the Destin pass. Was a haul.

The yellow edge grouper taste just like lobster. We deep drop alll the time if you have any questions. I’m surprised you didn’t catch any tilefish. They are everywhere.

Have you ever fished the "nipple"? Its a deep hole about 40NM from destin, good fishing there.

Deep dropped a few year ago for tile fish. Funny looking fish but mighty tasty
