It was a fun but at times frustrating hunt up in Illinois last week. Temps climbing into the 70's. Much of the corn still standing for the deer to stay in. Had a real good 8 point that might have come in range on day one get spooked by a little beagle dog and bed down in a thicket 44 yards in front of me. Too thick no shot. Saw another real good 8 point too far away the next day. Then the hot weather kicked in and deer movement just shut down for two whole days.

Finally on day five the weather got a little better and they started harvesting the corn on the farm we were hunting. This buck came out of the corn behind 3 does. First he stopped at 25 yards but there were 2 limbs criss crossing exactly where I needed to aim. He ran foward a bit to 20 yards and stopped again. Had my pin on him and just before I could hit the trigger he started moving again. As he passed my tree at 10 yards I shot him. I hit a bit far foward into the shoulder but that Grim Reaper broadhead blew through his left shoulder passed through his chest and buried into the bone of the other shoulder so hard that I tore the broadhead up with a pair of pliers trying to dig it out later. My arrow snapped in two as he took off back out into the field. As I watched him run his chest started getting lower and lower as he ran until he just buried in the field and flipped over. Not bad for a do it yourself hunt on strange land. 11 point with a split right brow tine. Weighed 225 on the farmers scales.

Dumb luck. laugh Why didn't you tell them how I scouted that area for you and put you on that deer. J/K Seriously, I'm glad you finally got one up there. Next time it will be us with the 160" at the archery shop. Enjoyed the trip, ready to go again.

Congrats Todd. I love the split brow tine.

I know what you mean about the weather. It was like being at home. Lows in the 40's and highs in the 70's.
