If everything big is paid off then 4 to 5k per month would be very adequate This works for us, but you better have a nest egg put back for the emergencies that will pop up. By emergencies I mean new roof, new H/A , vehicle repair etc. One good thing we have going is we have good health insurance at a very reasonable rate.

Been retired since I was 39. If you don’t own a piece of land that pays for itself, don’t even think about retiring.
Vehicles aren’t assets, they are transportation cost.
If you need an expensive vehicle to bolster your ego...don’t retire !
Look at the areas you spend the most time in your current house, measure that, then get an appropriate size house. I like a small house and a HUGE outdoor living area.
Cash money in an ammo can beats losing it in the market
A small Solar electricity backup and a solar water heater are the only solar worth spending money on (money pit)
If you can’t live off beans, rice, wild game and fish, mayhaw jelly, yard vegetables, biscuits & gravy when times are great or hard...Don’t retire !
If you can’t piddle around and keep yourself busy...don’t retire !
Its about Peace of mind, comfort, and freedom....Take it or leave it.

Seems like healthcare costs are the biggest issue for everyone. So when joe and the dems get us all Medicare for all, we can all retire early, and buy nice things instead of paying health insurance. 1- Brain dead Biden isn't our president 2 - Medicare for all will bankrupt all of us and no one will be able to retire. Who do you think will pay for it?

Also consider this - The Average American Household has ZERO savings to speak of. What does that mean? My opinion is we are headed to 3rd world country living conditions in the near future. We are going to cross some threshold here where people don't have savings and everything all of a sudden cost 12x what it did a few years ago. Vast majority of seniors unable to retire and wanting jobs that won't be there. Higher cost of living, higher healthcare costs, higher everything. Gas will be $10 a gallon.
Just wait. If that's not going to happen then tell me how it won't. How are we going to dig out of this huge mess this Country is in financially? China is sitting there just waiting on it and in the meantime helping us destroy our own economy in the process just to ensure when they draw the knife it will cut very deep..
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Who do you think will pay for it? It was sarcasm. And we owe something like $25 trillion now. Who do you think is gonna pay for that? At a certain point it all becomes a joke. It’s to that point with me. Almost 25% of all the United States dollars ever made, were made in 2020. They just print more seems to be the answer. And as long as we all don’t even understand, or care to do anything, they keep steamrolling us. The joke is on us, the little guy, look who gets bailed out, it’s the big banks. You’re already a tax slave. We will take it and like it. It’s gonna get worse.

Every bodys situation is different. I paid my house off in 20 years, bought a camp with the house note. We drove used vehicles until they were unreliable. I worked every hour I legally could trucking. I maxed out my 401k's and forgot they were there. My dad told me when I got my real job to live on 32 hours a week and bank the rest in case I missed a day. I'm drawing a pension, as much as I would have made working some months. It just takes sticking with the plan, and not worrying about who has the newest truck on the yard, it's only the newest until someone else gets a new one.

A lot of experts are predicting a major correction n the market in the next 24 months. ( like 60%) Might want to see how that plays out before retiring.

If you mean by that a 10% or greater pullback in the major markets, that’s just about a guarantee. Seldom does any 2-year period not experience such. We saw a way bigger drop than that last March. The bigger question is what then???

No need to worry about it in the Biden Harris world, your retirement will disappear!
If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Got 500k in 401k, 150k in savings... but owe 120 on house. When house is paid off and I got 1m in 401k... I will find something else to do. Rotating shifts suck. That's a good place to be. You are doing way better than the vast majority of folks.
