The older ones are good guns. I would consider a newer 10/22 to modify.

I've won a lot of .22 sniper matches with a green mountain match barrel on my 10/22. I've also put a Clark Custom trigger kit in it. It's in a Boyd's pro varmint (the one they used to call the "Tacti-cool") stock

My goal was to keep it lightweight, I haven’t weighed it but it is light, and shoots very good.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

I’ve got a 25 yr old Ruger 10/22 carbine that I was going to give to my son that we could upgrade and I’d give it to him. Not looking to go crazy, just make a good shooting gun that he will keep and shoot
Was thinking BX trigger (can’t find in stock) Target barrel (any recommendations?) New stock (any recommendations? I like the Boyd’s laminate, but was thinking about saving money and going with Hogue.
I like the Timney trigger better than the BX, and it comes with the extended mag release. Same with the Tactical Solutions barrel. The fluted version looks great and shoots even better I'm a Boyd's fan. I have several of them.

I put a Hogue stock and a Tactical Solutions barrel on mine. There are hundreds of variations. Your only limited by your imagination and wallet.
