I’ve got a 25 yr old Ruger 10/22 carbine that I was going to give to my son that we could upgrade and I’d give it to him. Not looking to go crazy, just make a good shooting gun that he will keep and shoot

Was thinking
BX trigger (can’t find in stock)
Target barrel (any recommendations?)
New stock (any recommendations? I like the Boyd’s laminate, but was thinking about saving money and going with Hogue.

The older ones are good guns. I would consider a newer 10/22 to modify.

I've won a lot of .22 sniper matches with a green mountain match barrel on my 10/22.
I've also put a Clark Custom trigger kit in it.
It's in a Boyd's pro varmint (the one they used to call the "Tacti-cool") stock

I went with a hogue over mold stock, ruger bx trigger (2.5 lb), er Shaw 18” factory contour barrel with no sights, BS Amazon monstrum scope and one piece mount on mine. It cleaned 17 years of the hell I put it through. Don’t have a pic handy but I’ll post one when I can. It was either retire it or refresh it and I chose to keep my old girl alive.

Here’s my latest lil project it has a 16.5” volquartsen ultra light barrel, bushnell elite 4200 3-9x40, bx trigger group and I kept the original stock amd just channeled it out. My goal was to keep it lightweight, I haven’t weighed it but it is light, and shoots very good.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

I like the Timney trigger better than the BX, and it comes with the extended mag release.
Same with the Tactical Solutions barrel. The fluted version looks great and shoots even better

I'm a Boyd's fan. I have several of them.

Sometimes I like them to be ‘stealth’ custom, and sandbag a little. wink

I put a Hogue stock and a Tactical Solutions barrel on mine. There are hundreds of variations. Your only limited by your imagination and wallet.
