I would love to hear the story. Me too. I keep going back to look at this one. We see plenty of good deer on here but holy smokes this one is next level. I woulda messed my pants if that one walked out in front of me! Congrats on dropping the deer of a lifetime!

I would love to hear the story. Me too. I keep going back to look at this one. We see plenty of good deer on here but holy smokes this one is next level. I woulda messed my pants if that one walked out in front of me! Congrats on dropping the deer of a lifetime! There's really not much to the story. It was complete luck! A group of my friends have been going out to this property for four years now. (They're the only group of gun hunters the landowner takes.) This year they invited me. We were told nothing of this deer or any deer actually. Opening morning we all just picked stands and went out. Most guys had history with stands, so they knew where they were going. Since I had never been there, I knew nothing of the place. After looking at some maps and talking to some of the others, I settled on a stand. It was a large sage field in the middle of some bedding. I was dropped off at dark and almost immediately started seeing deer coming from all directions crossing through that field. It was still kinda dark, so I was having to look through my binos to be able to identify the deer. It was Dec. 2nd, so the rut should've been well over, but I decided to grunt some just to see what would happen. As soon as I was done grunting, a nice 8 pt came charging in to 5 yards from the stand. Almost at the same time, 6 does came walking down the hill to my right about 250 yards away. As they were coming down, I noticed another deer come out of the woods further down and headed toward the does. I picked my binos up to see what the single deer was and almost fell out of my stand at the size of the deer! Well where the deer were there was a large limb that came across preventing me from getting a shot. I try to video most of my hunts, but the limb also prevented me from videoing him from my camera arm, so I took the camera off the arm and found a small gap in the limb to capture about 30 seconds of some crappy video of him. He eventually started moving away and falling off the top of the ridge, which would've put him out of my sight and down into the woods. I grunted several times. Getting louder at each grunt. He didn't stop or even look my way. Just as his vitals were about to be covered up by the top of the ridge, I fired a shot. He was about 150 yards away so I could hear the "whack" as the bullet hit him. He donkey kicked and ran down the ridge out of sight. I found him just inside the tree line, pilled up. I shot him the first hour of the first hunt of the first day! Unbelievable! I've been blessed with some great deer in my life, but never would I have dreamed of having the opportunity to kill a deer like this! To show you just how lucky I was. I was the only person out of the group that killed a deer....
