Got the itch for something new. 95% of my hunting is 100 yards or less. I would even say 50 yards or less is more accurate. What is your favorite short range caliber and ammo choice???

50 yards and in, I’m going to use my 454. I’m good out to 50 with it and open sights.

This, but I’m partial to the 110gr Barnes.

Same here. Never killed a deer at over 70 yds. I love my Marlin 30/30 lever action with iron sights. I recently purchased a Ruger M77/357 to hunt with and put a Leupold 2x7 on it. It drives tacks at 50 yds, but haven’t had a chance to shoot a deer with it yet.

FYI, you don't need a super - duper hubble telescope mounted on top of a 100 yard woods gun either.

I have a Rossi 44 mag lever gun that’s fun to hunt with. Only drawback to iron sights is the last ten minutes in the evening

Thanks for the replies!!! Currently the 30-30 is my go to short range setup. While I love the 30-30 I’m always wanting to try something different. A slug gun is on top of the list right now.

any 357 max or 35 Remington, (or even 356/358Win), have been the best ‘woods’ calibers I know of......they’ll go past 100, but a180-200gr at 2200-2500, is hard to argue.

I don't believe in "short range guns". A scoped 30/06 will kill just as good at 50 yards as ANY so called brush gun and it will do something that won't do....hit a deer at 300 yards. Piss on handicapping yourself.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
