You ever met? And what piece of advice was the best piece of advice that you still use?

Mine was Bob Gene McBride. He owned Camp Mac and I worked there for many years starting in high school. He would take me around and show me the “how too’s” to fix about anything. His 1 piece of advice was- Always have a Plan B. Don’t worry if plan A works, but what are you going to do if it doesn’t. His example was about it raining. If it didn’t rain, the program ran as usual. If it did there were 350 people that had to be dealt with.

So, I always try to have a plan B.

One of the best pieces of advise I ever got was my freshman yr of college, from my roommate...it was something that he'd always heard from his dad/granddad and it has stuck with me to this day...

"If you gotta eat sh*t, take big bites."

My dad was a self employed welder while I was growing up. He did a lot of work for an old rough engineer at a plant. When I was 12 that engineer told me what he admired about my father was he never procrastinated or dreaded doing a job no matter how bad it was. He just jumped on it and got it done. There were some bad jobs in this plant too. I worked there later for that same engineer.
I've tried to live up to that same standard. I alway think of that when I need to do something I really don't want to do at work.

Wilt Wagner. Reynolds Aluminum late 80's. He addressed President Ronald Reagan during his time in office. His words of advice to me were-"Daylight is burning, make the best of it".
He passed away several years ago but his memory lives on in the things we talked about. I just wish I could talk with him now and listen to the advice he could give me. He was a great man!

Bob McBride was a dang good man. He did me good at my time when I was at Camp Mac. I think he lost control of his counselors who kept all those good looking big knockered blondes in line which may have caused him problems in the long run.

I’ve known a lot of book smart people but the ones I consider intelligent weren’t educated in any school
My Grandmother.....just because a dog lays down don’t mean it won’t bite
My Uncle....welder fabricator mechanic craftsman.....told me one time I was complaining because it was cold that I needed some Oreos
I asked how that would help...he said it won’t but you can use the cream in them to spread around your ankles to keep the ants away from your candy ass

When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself
The older I get the better I used to be

My grandfather Walter Brower. He was a doctor, farmer, amateur plumber, mechanic and electrician and he worked on the development of the nuclear bomb with William Tell at Oak Ridge. He was also the best shot with a rifle, shotgun and pistol I’ve ever seen. He shot in the pan American games twice in skeet and medaled both times. Later in life he had to start shooting left handed because he developed a cataract in his right eye. After a couple of months, he was shooting competition skeet again. He taught me there was nothing you couldn’t learn if you were dedicated and had enough time.

I’ve been told by multiple people that if he hadn’t been an alcoholic, he probably would have been surgeon general. But, booze ended his military career in the late 1950s while he stationed in DC.

Don’t know about the smartest. But I really appreciate a lot.

don’t let em stab you in the back.”

My Dad had a ninth grade education but he was a mechanical genius. Told me I could do anything if I set my head to it.

The smartest person I know is my sister. PhD in Neuroscience from Cornell. Speaks and writes multiple languages. Her IQ is extremely high. She's adoptedgrin

The wisest person I know wasn't necessarily the smartest...my grandfather...but his discernment and understanding of life made him head and shoulders above other people. He was extremely smart though too and very accomplished. Farmer who started several large commercial farms, inventor with patents, alternate on US Olympic Wrestling team for the Berlin Olympics. I often reflect on my time with him growing up in Mississippi. He passed in 1984.

My Grandfather. The one thing he told me one time that has stuck with me was “it’s what you learn after you think you know it all that gets you through life”. It’s true, I learn something new everyday.
