He actually did some good going against the KKK as a US attorney. Thats completely not true, that whole trial was a sham and a publicity stunt. Absolutely, I know a ton of the back story. My dad was involved as attorney for Blanton early in the process. He was looking for nothing but headlines. They also were two old men who in had not been a factor in anything other than setting their depends for decades.
