Not to share many details but I have a loved one battling alcoholism that has been in a few short spells of rehab with 12 step program. It’s not clicking, and over the course of a year they have gotten much, much worse. I’m having a hard time searching google, as all of these places have cheesy websites. I think the best option may be to get a recommendation from others. Open to suggestions - feel free to PM.

I’m asking this in the most respectful way possible, but does this person actually want help? Or is this something you and your loved ones are trying to force upon them?
It’s sad to watch someone self destruct when battling addiction, but at the end of the day, you just can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped.

If it’s not clicking then he/she hasn’t hit rock bottom and wants to change. Hope all gets better

I have no quick easy answers but I can offer up a prayer.

Father,
Most or all of us don't know the loved one that Zbrann is referring to but you do. You know what's in their heart and in their mind. We ask that you give them the strength, the courage, and the wisdom to beat this addiction and any other thing that may be holding them back. We ask that you bring them in their daily walk a little closer to you through your son Yahushua that gave all, so that we may have everlasting life, peace and life more abundantly. Amen.

A cousin of mine works in addition counseling and told me there's been a MASSIVE uptick in relapses and ODs this year.

I hope that individual can get the help they need.

The foundry is better now that Micah Andrews has taken it over. My first recommendation though is Turning Point. They are in Jemison. Good Christian based program. One thing they do that I like is they get involved in numerous churches and that allows the people different options when they have completed the program. This lets them establish a comfortable presence with different congregations. Most programs only go to one place for services and when the guys/gals finish they feel like outsiders when trying to find a church to attend. I truly believe 2 things about someone trying to end additction 1-they "themself" have to make up their mind that they want to end it and 2-it's not only a physical addiction but a heart/mindset change they need to make therefore a Christian based program is important for them.

This is true... Unfortunately for my oldest son, rock bottom was death. And for my youngest daughter I don't know that she has found it yet. She is supposedly in rehab for the umpteenth time, but I don't stay in contact with her anymore, and if you have a loved one with a serious addiction, I don't have to explain why.

I don’t know any personally but be sure they have a good medical staff. Alcohol is one of the few things that you can withdraw from that will kill you. You can stop other stuff cold turkey but without medical help quitting alcohol suddenly can kill you.

I'll second Turning Point in Jemison, Al. If your loved one wants help he can get it there.

This. My SIL was a street walking hooker crackhead 20 years ago and my MIL bailed her out over and over. I told my MIL to stop buying her cigarettes and giving her money so that she could hit rock bottom. It took a couple of years before she finally cut the strings and let her go. She eventually checked herself in to a place in Pensacola and got straight.

I agree, and it took me a while to realize that. But I do need to be prepared with options when the conversation arises. He has reached out to me for help in the past, it’s just a matter of time.

Thanks for responses I’ll be looking into the few mentioned.

When my brother was young he took a very wrong road with drugs, my parents kept bailing him out and enabling him as much as possible with their “help”. He used to convince my dad to pay for rehab whenever drugs got hard to find on the street for whatever reason. When everyone finally had just had enough and told him not to come around them ( many, including myself were to the point of killing him if he came back around and I actually beat him until I thought he was dead once) or bring his problems to their door step, he hit bottom just over 2 years later and started to see what he was doing to himself and others. The wake up day for him was almost 30 years ago and not had any issues since.

God doesn’t even claim to save those who don’t ask for it, you can’t save those who don’t want it. I’ve never seen rehab or a program work for anyone who didn’t put themselves in it.

Praying for your family member but remember, you can’t fix it, they have to.

Addiction will make people do stupid things and unfortunately most of them never want to change or receive help until they hit rock bottom and have an awakening.

As others have said, until they are ready to change you are waisting your time. Unfortunately, they won't have that desire until they hit rock bottom, and only they will no how low the bottom is.

Treatment centers are a good first step, but if he is going to achieve long term sobriety he will need to not only go to, but actually participate in, AA/NA or whatever suits his personal problem. Except in the rarest cases family won't do it and church won't do it, pretty much the only thing that is a long term solution is active participation in a 12 Step program. I would be very leery of a treatment center that focused more on Church than a 12 Step Program. Not a knock on Church which can be an important positive aspect in anyones life, but it generally is not the best solution for dealing with addiction. This is based on over 25 years of personal sober experience. I have watched way to many folks get sober in the rooms, decide church is the solution to their problem and disappear. Most of them, the lucky ones anyway, show back up 6 months or a year later beat to hell. You hear through the grapevine about others, not so lucky, and it is usually not pretty. The brains of us drunks/druggies flat out works differently from "normal" people. And that is why the 12 Step programs work. If getting sober is not the most important thing in his life right now, and if he is not 100% willing to pretty much change everything in his life, he is not ready and your wasting your breath. And that is first hand from the guy who was the problem. I have the best family in the world, all who would have walked across hot coals if they thought it would get me sober. And the sad truth of it was at that time it did not matter one bit to me and it won' matter to him/her until 100% ready, if ever. A lot never get there, but those who do and are willing to do the work can have a great life.
