Does anyone know of somewhere near Huntsville I could get a small pig prepped for roasting. Just need it cleaned and the hair removed.

It's not difficult to do those two things yourself if you have the room and equipment. Gutting it's the easy part.

Rocket City Meats might be able to assist, if they're still open.

We used to pour boiling water over them to loosen the hair for removal. Brings back fond memories of having a hog killing day.

It seems it would be easier to burn the hair off one with a torch.

We had a fule barrel cut in half long ways. Had it sitting on concrete bases then built a fire under it. Dunk the hog with 3 point boom lift then scrape.

Only gotten one and it came prepped. Was from a hog farmer though. Cooked a bunch of little wild ones - always skinned them for ease of use.

I can get you one (40 - 50 lb range) if you don't mind coming to Birmingham. It will be prepped and ready to go on the smoker when you pick it up. You will just need to finish splitting him. If B'ham is too far, I would think you could ask any of your local grocery store meat departments to order one for you from their supplier. PM me if you need me to order one for you.

I’ve been told Publix will order them for you.

Try Rocket City Meats. I bought one already prepped from them last year. Im not sure if you can bring your own or not.

That is how we did it. When the fire gets scalding hot, dunk them for just a second and lay the pig on a tarp. Get on your knees with some sharp knives and scrape the hair off.
