Guys - I hav been using 13-13-13 to fertilize fields for years and I hav been pleased

Just saw guy on TV spraying fertilizer which I hav never done - but I hav 25 gallon sprayer and it would be lot easier to spray a fertilizer than carry 25 pounds over my shoulder of 13-13-13

Any of you guys ever use a liquid fertilizer or is there anything to take the place of triple 13 in Liguid form? Tried googling and did not see much. How do you guys fertilize Fields or what u use? Thanks!

No. It’s not possible. Potash falls out of solution. Be careful what you see advertised. Sometimes hard work pays off. Don’t fall for dry fertilizer “substitutes”. And gallon conversions from pounds of dry is another fallacy

I bet whatever is carrying that 25 gallon sprayer will also carry a seed/fert spreader.

Lugging a loaded, manual hand spreader around on broken ground will put you out of action with one misstep especially if you already have back issues. Ask me how I know.

You do realize for every 100lbs of 13-13-13 you put out your only getting 73lbs of actual plant food, the other 27lbs is filler.. You'd be better off putting something like a 17-17-17 with no filler and just put less out.. i assume your buying it by the bag, if not theirs alot better fertilizer choices when bought in bulk

I think you are only getting 39 lbs of plant food in a 100 lbs of 13-13-13

I've never understood why anyone would use triple13 if they had the option to use triple 17 or triple 19. If calculate the cost per unit of nutrients, triple 13 will never be the most cost efficient

Fertilizer is not rocket science. Unless you did a soil sample and know exactly what you need. Then don’t worry about it. 13-13-13 the heck out of it and move on 👍

13-13-13 if you do the math there is just about more filler in it than fertilizer. Definitely need to go with 17-17-17 if your not doing soil samples and know exactly what you need. Just because someone told you to use 13-13-13 doesn’t mean it’s the best

So many people are stuck on 13-13-13 that it is hard to find 17-17-17 and just about impossible to find 19-19-19 it makes no sense. Why would anyone want to spread 300 lbs of 13-13-13 when you could spread 200 lbs of 19-19-19 and get practically the same about of fertilizer.

What amazes me is that apparently folks don't know what the numbers mean on the bag. 13-13-13 means that the bag is 13% nitrogen, 13% phosphorus (phosphate), and 13% potassium (potash). Most comes in 50 lb bags. So that's 6.5 lbs per bag, NOT 13.

Therefore, when your soil test calls for 50lbs of nitrogen, for example, for wheat, you would need almost 9 bags of triple 13 to get here. or that would be about 3 bags of 34-0-0. Most people don't do soil tests. therefore, they just follow the recommendations on the bag when no soil test is done, which usually ends up being 200lbs of 13-13-13 per acre.

The problem with spraying fertilizer is burning up your sprayer. I don’t think our small sprayers are able to hold up to fertilizer. I could be wrong, but that is what I’ve been told. I have a 25 gallon tank with an electric sprayer. I like Rainbow 13-13-13. It has worked long enough, back in the day, I just used whatever the co-op had.

^^^The majority (30 lbs) of almost every bag of 13-13-13 is rock/filler. Lots of better options. Always cheaper and better to get a buggy and have what you actually need mixed at the co-op. Do a soil test and put down what is really needed.

I have used 30-0-0 liquid before and it's basically miracle grow and will green stuff up but like others have said it's not as good as 17-17-17.

Maybe 257 or some of the experts can chime in but I know that the liquid lime does not hold the PH nearly as long as the granular AG lime. Liquid works much quicker but doesnt seem to last. I'd assume the liquid fert is probably the same way.
