The reason for this thread was that folks ask all the time... "How much to have this or that painted?"
Hopefully I can recommend these guys when they are through. They look like they may be a resource for folks needing something painted for a reasonable cost. Agreed. It seems that most shops are so busy on late model repairs with insurance paying, that they either flat out tell you they aren't interested, or quote a price that will make you less interested. I couldn't pay for the materials to paint a Jeep all over for $800. Seriously, my cost in liquid materials would be over that.

Exactly and I understand that. These guys, despite the hole in the wall appearance, appear to be craftsmen. I hope my instincts were correct.

I like that color a lot. Thing would look good with 4” and 33x12.50s! I really would like to do that, but when you raise a Jeep like that properly, you are getting into a lot of modifications. Which costs lots of $$$. I'm thinking 2" lift with the springs and front sway bar end links that the guy gave me as part of the deal and then adding 2" lift Rancho shocks, may need to drop the transfer case with some washers, and then add a 1.25" body lift and call it good. Despite being towed around by two successive motor homes, this Jeep has never been off road, has no rust, and the undercarriage and engine compartment looks clean enough to eat off of.

I don’t see anything quality at that price. The paint alone for it will cost double what you’re paying which means labor is about -$24 an hour. Practicing I guess.
Hope it turns out good, I’d take advantage of it to if it turns out well.
Id like to see the finished product in person and get a number, if it’s half ass descent they’re never gonna have time to paint for anyone else before they both die!

I was hoping you would chime in with your experience. I was thinking the same thing. "How are they making any money?" I know they both have farms and the son is also an auctioneer. So I know they both have other income streams. But they have to be making money doing this because this place has been open for a long time. I sincerely hope it is good. My thought process was that I wasn't going to pay $3000 to paint a $6500, 245k mile, 23 year old Jeep. I was only going to make it look less chitty and keep it from rusting by painting the affected parts, but when they gave me that price, I thought... "What the hell, how much worse can it look with the peeling clear coat." So we will see. I texted him yesterday and told him I was bringing over my other set of doors and having them painted too. From what I see in the pictures, it looks like they are doing a thorough job at least from a non-professional painter's perspective. I wasn't expecting them to take the jeep apart further and to prime everything like they are doing. I was pleasantly surprised to see that. It's not a custom hot rod or show car, so even if it's a 5 foot paint job I won't be disappointed, I just want it to look decent running around town up at the cabin and still not be afraid to scratch it up in the woods. I probably wouldn't have taken a '63 Split Window Vette to the guys... But after seeing the pictures of the prep work, I am hopefully optimistic.
