[quote=Shaw]Spent a few hours today setting it up. Went with the gun metal string color with black serving. It has 26” 60# switch mods on it and it topped out at 60.3#. Out of the box, the VXR is one of the best balanced bows Mathews has ever put out. Not sure if I’ll keep the back bar on it or not. It draws a little smoother than my Triax, but I’m pulling 62# on the Triax. The VXR has a touch of hand vibration at the shot where the Triax has none. Definitely nothing to be concerned with and can probably be eliminated by putting Alpha Shocks in the limbs. Speed seems to be right with the Triax and is just as quiet.

The Triax has one design flaw, the angle of the grip. The bow tunes better with a higher wrist grip. The only way to correct it is to go with an aftermarket grip. Some people did not have issues or never knew they had issues because they never attempted to tune it to shoot fixed heads. With the stock grip my fixed heads continuously impacted higher than my field points and I could not tune it out. Once I put a higher wrist grip on it, it tuned perfectly. Mathews redesigned their grip last year and it’s the best one they‘ve ever offered. They also corrected the grip angle by angling the riser forward in the grip area. This was my main reason for wanting to get one. I’ll start the process of bareshaft tuning here in a couple days. Can’t wait to pop the cherry on it in October.

I've got a Triax and I shoot fixed broadheads. I have noticed differences in POI for broadheads vs. my field points. I've never used an aftermarket grip. Can you recommend one? Does it install over the factory grip?

Thanks.

I prefer the the medium wrist delrin Shrewd.

You have to remove the factory grip. It’s pretty easy to peel off. The Shrewd will slide right on. In most cases the fit is tight enough. If not, add a couple of layers of masking tape to the riser and that will do the trick.

Sweet looking bow. I bought a new Mathews last year, but have been thinking of getting this one.
