I’m very sorry for your loss. Dogs are something special. As the owner of a dachshund, I can appreciate the quirky mannerisms they have. Hang in there bro. Thank the good Lord for all the good memories.

Parker. I know where you coming from. Had a bunch put down over the years. Some I was very attached to them. Best thing to do is get you another soon as possible. I have 4 house dogs now. Basset , border collie , lab an mutt . Wouldn t take nothing for Any of them. Time will heal most of pain but another pet will help fill the empty spot.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I feel your pain Parker. I lost a good 4 legged buddy this morning. It never is easy, but like others have mentioned, another good buddy will help to fill the hole in your heart.

Amazing you posted this now. I am going through the same....probably.
My Mom's Weiner Dog has come down with degenerative disc disease and is unable to
use his back legs for a week now. The Vet said there was a surgery they have been
having good luck with. I am waiting on a call from Auburn to schedule the surgery.
I don't have high hopes.
My mom , who has ever worsening Dementia loves this dog more than me.
And, quite honestly he has become my little Buddy also. Like a little man.
Never thought I would be so tore up over a little dog.

So sorry to hear about this, I'm probably not too far behind you. My dachshund is 17 and starting to have problems getting around. I know what you mean about them being special!

Y'alls words have meant a lot and we definitely would love another dachshund in the near future. They are just awesome dogs and they love to be loved. Hate to hear that about your dog, Stob, and also to all the others who have to endure the pain of losing them anytime soon. When we got home my wife gave me a gift that she had painted for me back in February after Brody really started to go downhill. She waited to give it to me today after we got done, and it really touched me.

Had To put ours down during spring break, Just a terrible time...
He was a red Mini. Had heart issue ,Then we got him better for a day or so then he quit eating..Kept drinking not eating the meds was helping his heart issues, He just wanted to go ,We are still devastated by his loss.. The hardest thing To do..Still question the decision almost every day..Plus he was living hard..So hard to be in the room when he was put to rest..Then I bought him a lil box , Like a small casket and buried him with his toys.So painful, Still have his partner she is a dapple, About 6 months younger..
Painful

You are in our prayers.

I’ve been in your shoes a couple of times. It’s so hard and I’m really sorry that you’re dealing with this. Know that you are absolutely doing the right thing. Doesn’t make it an easy decision though. He gave you all that love for all those years. For that, he deserves to go out peacefully and pain free. Love the pics! Hang in there!

It’s been a while since I put down the best dog that I ever had. And after reading this thread brings back one of the saddest days in my life. So sorry that you and your family are having to go through this. Just remember the joy that Brody brought you and that’s what he lived for.

That is IVV. I don't know what that stands for but 25 % of dachshunds get it after 3 years of age. One of mine got it and it came on overnight. The vet I use actually teaches at AU about it. He said if surgery is needed AU is the place to go. At that time I couldn't afford a surgery for a dog so when I took him to the vet I told the family to say good bye because I didn't think he would be coming home. They put him in a cage and started an IV with steroids. After a couple of days he was better so we got to bring him home. Then the tough part came. He had to stay in a Pet Taxi for 14 days. He was miserable. I do remember another thing Dr. Woods told me is that despite the pitiful way they can't move their legs, they are not in pain. He said it is not like a human having back problems. Anyways, if you want a second opinion from a vet really knowledgeable in IVV, take him to Dr. George Woods at the Selma Animal Hospital.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I feel your pain Parker. Our female long-hair dachshund is 16 and fading. My 9 year old long-hair mail is my best friend and getting gray around the nose, which makes me love him even more knowing the years are adding up.

Sending prayers to your dachshund loving family from mine.

One of the toughest thing is to make that drive. It's like the Green Mile. I sat their with mine in my lap for 20 minutes after. The vet was very respectful.

After that you swear you won't put yourself through that again. But a good dog knows how to worm their way into the family and there's nothing you can do about it. Totally worth it.

It's hard to lose our furry family members. They do become a big part of our lives regardless of their size. Prayers for your family.

Never easy. My lab only has another year or 2.
