Probably Hurlbert Birds. But then again, I flew many beach runs from Montgomery when I was with them. Also Biloxi has em!

Yeah I'll bet that got the ol ticker running.
I was riding in a Ch53 one night, inbound to AQ, when we took several rounds of small arms fire. We circled and the door gunners returned fire. That was a tense couple of minutes. 👍

Never knew you folks felt so spirited about my beloved C130 Hercules. That old, fat, slow girl was awful good to me. They have served our country well and in almost every capacity you can imagine. The taxpayer’s definitely got their monies worth on this defense department purchase.
I spent about 7000 hours of my military career flying them all over this world and carried every kind of cargo from road graders, to weapons, to paratroopers, to livestock and anything else you can think of. Like Perch said, filling the sky with sticks of paratroopers is proud sight. I wish I had a penny for every one we dropped over the drop zone at Ft Benning, or down on the range at Eglin AFB on training missions. Taking off and landing those things in a field or any surface that would hold up to the footprint of say a 50 hp tractor was the most fun you could have with your clothes on.
I sure miss that kind of flying, but I still fly my Herk simulator on the computer and reminisce. They ought to have national holiday or movement to celebrate the Herk. HLM...lol.

People here don't know the number of military giants that are members here. Men that were ready to give all during their service.I admire each and every one and despise every lowlife that disrespects or history and military heros. Few people consider the number of trained killers that walk our streets. Maybe if they did, they'd stop all talk of a civil war to make America a Socialist State. They walk a little softer and behave. While the USA has a large military, there is a lager silent group of men that will not allow our Country to be trashed. God Bless you Boxhauler, RIP

Every time I'm in Montgomery working on the west side of town and the c-130s are doing touch and goes, I always try to get there before they stop so I can sit at the end of the runway and watch them go over. I live exactly where the c-130s from fort Benning make their u-turn when they are doing the nighttime touch and goes. Is pretty impressive to hear them coming and then see them go over. Some of the time with no lights on. They're flying low and just look like a hole in the sky.

C-130s are beast. My favorite on I worked on is the A-10 they are just bad azz. Remember the first time I saw a C-5 I was thinking it was fixing to fall out of the sky cause it so big it looked like it was barely moving. Lol

The year was 1968 it was my first day in Vietnam. About 50 of use got in a C123 for a short trip up the beach to our new home.
We landed on a air strip made from metal airfield matting. They said it was a good landing. I still think we crashed.

That's a pretty good description! 😳
My first tactical landing, I actually thought we'd been shot down!

Alabama/LSU 2005; best flyover ever; all a sudden it was like they were in the stadium, VERY low. The place went nuts.

They are work horses for the Coast Guard and it was nice having those guys circle overhead as back up while doing SAR cases out in the Bearing Sea and Gulf of Alaska. The Coast Guard also procured several C-144s, smaller but a good replacement for the falcons.

Awesome flyover, but pretty sure that wasn't a C130. Might have been a C17. I might be crazy too.

My son made his "fini" or final flight in the C-130 yesterday. He's moving on to fly the Air Forces newest tanker the KC-46. I think he will miss his days in the Hercules hauling the "mail" all over Africa.

Good to know. The body looked a bit thin for a 17. Figured someone would know.

KC-135 to be exact.

And that was cool as hell but not legal fo sho. I won’t tell!

Now we’ve done it! I’ve not been on a 130 fight in about 11 years. I’m calling tomorrow to get on a low level training flight. First time to be a passenger and not a qualified crew member but I’ve been wanting to go. That ugly plane has taken me around the world and back more that a few times. I sure miss her!

Disclaimer. I’ve been flying something else for 11 years now and that is soon to end.

Grew up with a guy that flew several of the transports. Not sure if he flew the C130 but I’m thinking he did before moving on to the Dragon Lady until retirement.

Yep. Worked on KC and RC-135's at RAF Mildenhall, UK (100th ARW) from 93-97 when I left Pope. Can't kick ass, without gas.

buddy of mine was a crew chief on C-130s flying into Khe Sanh 1968 Tet Offensive. Very quiet, easy going fella.

The Chiropractor I’ve used for 40 years was a B52 pilot that sprayed agent orange. He has the skin cancer scars to show for it. Interesting guy to say the least.
