i'm planning a hunt for marion county on a cousin's land. i know nothing about the land except that it is a huge tract with pines, pasture and hardwoods; former tobacco farm. i'll go for several days sometime during the long gun season. any idea on best month? marion county is in the north central part of the state. i'll be getting additional data on the land ... thanks.

I hunted S.C for several years in the low country. Barnwell and Alandale South Carolina. Season open August 15th in low country. They do use corn there. Not sure when season open in that area but if you want one in velvet you would have a good chance if you go August 15th. This. I have hunted South Carolina for years and I shot a nice velvet buck there the second day of the season one year. Lots of deer for sure. I liked the opener and the pre rut /rut there.

We manage several properties in SC. Focus on early Oct for velvet buck. Rut hunt can vary depending on the county. Talk with local taxidermists and find out when most mature bucks are brought in.

I think you mean early September? No velvet bucks after the second week in September. Our rut is mid to late October around Darlington County

No. But I would like to! Turkey and deer. Have no interest in killing a buck in velvet. Doesn't do a thing for me.
