Not correct. Nixon appointed Ford as his Vice President when Agnew quit.

Article II, section 1, clause 6 of the constitution provides that in the event of a vacancy in the office of Vice President, the president appoints a new Vice President who is then confirmed by a majority vote of both houses of Congress.

Ford was not Speaker of the House , Repubs were in the minority when Nixon was Prez, I do think Ford was minority leader.


When Ford became Pres. then he got to pick his VP. His top 3 to pick from where Rockefeller (who he picked), Donald Rumsfeld, or George Bush. Now we can talk about career politicians.
